De Heus opens Vietnam’s first dedicated marine fish feed mill with 84,000-tonne capacity

VIETNAM – De Heus Animal Nutrition has expanded its aquaculture business in Asia with the opening of a new marine and cold-water fish feed mill in Vinh Long Province, Vietnam, designed to produce 84,000 metric tonnes of specialised feed annually.

The facility is the company’s first production site dedicated exclusively to marine and cold-water fish feed. 

It is expected to strengthen De Heus’ ability to supply aquaculture producers in Vietnam and international markets as demand for premium seafood continues to grow.

According to De Heus, the investment reflects its long-term strategy to support sustainable aquaculture through specialised nutrition, modern manufacturing technologies and responsible production practices.

The mill is equipped with feed manufacturing technology sourced from Europe and the United States and operates under internationally recognised standards, including ISO 22000, ASC Feed and Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP). 

These certifications are intended to ensure consistent feed quality while supporting sustainable fish farming.

The new facility will manufacture feed for high-value marine species such as sea bass, barramundi and other commercially important fish, serving both domestic producers and export-oriented aquaculture businesses.

Supporting Asia’s expanding aquaculture sector

The opening comes as Asia remains the world’s largest aquaculture-producing region, with Vietnam among the leading seafood exporters. 

Rising global consumption of fish and seafood has increased demand for nutritionally balanced feeds that improve feed conversion, fish health and production efficiency.

Marine aquaculture has become an important growth segment as producers diversify beyond freshwater species to meet demand for premium seafood in export markets. 

Reliable access to specialised feed is increasingly viewed as critical to improving productivity and maintaining international quality standards.

De Heus said the new mill will enable it to develop species-specific nutrition programmes tailored to the requirements of marine and cold-water fish, supporting better growth performance and product quality.

The company also incorporated sustainability measures into the facility’s design. 

The mill has been developed to optimise raw material utilisation, improve operational efficiency and reduce energy consumption throughout the manufacturing process.

The investment strengthens De Heus’ aquaculture production network while expanding its portfolio beyond conventional fish feed. 

The company said the facility will support farmers with advanced nutrition solutions while contributing to more efficient and responsible aquaculture systems that can meet growing global demand for high-quality seafood.
