The livestock sector contributes 28% of the total national emissions, which is over 90% of total agricultural emissions.

The latest publications complete a six-species analysis covering broiler chickens, laying hens, turkeys, swine, beef cattle and dairy cattle.

The LIFT project is organised by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and implemented by Counterpart International.

The laboratory is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s feed testing and regulatory capacity, at a time when the country’s livestock sector is under growing pressure.

The vaccine is administered in three initial doses at day 0, day 30, and day 180, protecting for up to 1 year, with booster doses required thereafter.

The Irish-funded research will examine how such additives perform across different production stages, providing long-term data on effectiveness and potential scalability.

The launch is supported by 9 peer-reviewed publications, 12 mode-of-action studies and 5 years of field data, reflecting a broader industry shift toward scientifically validated feed additives.

The minister stressed that the impact of FMD extends beyond animal health, affecting livestock productivity, market access and feed demand across the value chain.

The dual launch reflects a broader shift toward coordinated, innovation-led agricultural development in Africa.
