The Middle East and Africa animal healthcare market is forecast to reach US$6.91bn by 2033.

UAE – Al Khayyat Investments (AKI) has announced a strategic investment of US$100 million to establish VetHealth, a new veterinary business division aimed at expanding access to animal healthcare products, services and technologies across the Middle East and Africa.
The launch comes as demand for veterinary services continues to rise across the region, driven by growth in the livestock sector, a growing focus on food security, and a rapidly expanding companion animal market.
According to AKI, the investment reflects the growing recognition of animal health as a critical component of agricultural productivity, public health and economic development.
The company said VetHealth will focus on strengthening veterinary care ecosystems while supporting sustainable livestock production and improved animal welfare.
The initiative aligns with broader regional efforts to enhance food system resilience and reduce vulnerabilities in livestock production.
Animal health remains a key pillar of food security, particularly in the Middle East and Africa, where disease outbreaks can significantly impact livestock productivity, farmer incomes and the availability of animal-source foods.
Industry forecasts highlight the scale of the opportunity.
AKI noted that the Middle East and Africa veterinary healthcare market is expected to reach US$6.91 billion by 2033, supported by growing investments in livestock health management, disease prevention, diagnostics and veterinary pharmaceuticals.
The livestock sector continues to play a vital role across many African and Middle Eastern economies, contributing to food production, employment and rural livelihoods.
Rising demand for meat, milk and eggs is increasing the need for effective animal healthcare solutions that improve productivity while reducing disease risks.
Supporting food security and livestock development
AKI said the creation of VetHealth forms part of its long-term strategy to support national and regional development priorities, including the UAE’s food security agenda.
The investment aligns with the UAE’s commitment to strengthening food system resilience through innovation, sustainable agriculture and improved livestock management.
Enhanced veterinary services are increasingly viewed as essential for achieving these goals, particularly as climate change, transboundary animal diseases and evolving consumer demands place additional pressure on food production systems.
The launch also reflects growing private-sector participation in the animal health industry.
Across the region, investments are increasing in veterinary medicines, diagnostics, vaccines and digital animal health technologies designed to improve disease surveillance and livestock performance.
As governments and industry stakeholders seek to build more resilient food systems, animal health is becoming an increasingly important area for investment.
AKI believes VetHealth will help address existing gaps in veterinary service delivery while supporting healthier livestock populations, improved productivity and stronger food security outcomes across the Middle East and Africa.
The company said further details on VetHealth’s operational plans, partnerships and service offerings will be announced as the business expands its presence in key regional markets.
