PORTUGAL – Hendrix Genetics has acquired 100% of Portuguese poultry breeding company Pintobar Exploração Avícola, Lda., expanding its production and breeding footprint in the Iberian market and strengthening its supply of poultry genetics to customers across the region.
The acquisition became effective on 31 July 2026 and builds on a long-standing partnership between the two companies.
Pintobar specialises in chicken reproduction and breeding, operating breeder rearing facilities, hatching egg production farms and hatcheries.
The company supplies customers in Portugal and international export markets.
“Hendrix Genetics has been a valued and trusted partner for many years. This acquisition reinforces our long-term commitment to the Iberian market and to customers across the Iberian region,” said Pelayo Casanovas, Managing Director, Layers and Broilers Business Unit at Hendrix Genetics.
“Together, we will continue to invest in people, production and innovation to support the long-term success of poultry producers.”
Founded in 1982, with roots in poultry production dating back to the 1960s, Pintobar has built its business around poultry genetics, technical expertise and production technology.
The company generates approximately €20 million (US$23.3 million) in annual revenue and employs around 125 people.
Eduardo Fraga, General Manager of Pintobar, said joining Hendrix Genetics creates new opportunities while retaining the expertise and values the company has developed.
“We are proud of what Pintobar has achieved over the past decades. Joining Hendrix Genetics represents an important next step that creates new opportunities for our employees, customers and business partners while preserving the values and expertise that have made Pintobar successful,” he said.
Hendrix Genetics strengthens poultry breeding network
The acquisition adds to Hendrix Genetics’ global poultry breeding operations, which span layer and broiler genetics and provide breeding stock and technical support to poultry producers.
For the Iberian market, the integration of Pintobar is expected to strengthen local production capacity and supply security while supporting customers in Portugal, Spain and export markets.
The company said Pintobar’s existing leadership team and employees will remain part of the business during the integration.
Customers, suppliers and other business partners are expected to experience continuity in operations, technical support and product supply.
The deal also gives Hendrix Genetics greater control over breeding, hatching egg and hatchery activities in the region, supporting its strategy of investing in local production and strengthening proximity to poultry customers.
Hendrix Genetics said the acquisition will support further investment in people, production and innovation as the company develops its presence across the Iberian poultry industry.
