AUSTRIA – Fixkraft-Futtermittel GmbH has inaugurated a new multifunctional silo and oilseed processing facility at its Donauhafen Enns site, strengthening its capacity to handle and process raw materials for animal feed production.
The expansion represents the largest investment in the company’s 55-year history. The development aims to improve raw material availability, increase processing capacity, and strengthen the company’s position in Austria’s animal nutrition industry.
The new installation comprises a silo system with a storage capacity of 12,000 cubic metres and a modern hydrothermal processing plant for oilseeds, including soybeans and rapeseed.
The infrastructure enables Fixkraft to process important feed ingredients directly at Enns that previously required external processing.
This integration is expected to improve control over raw material quality and provide greater flexibility in developing feed formulations.
According to the company, the investment will allow it to produce higher-value feed ingredients for its livestock nutrition products while strengthening supply security.
Soybeans and rapeseed are important raw materials for animal feed because they provide protein and energy for livestock diets.
Improving their processing and availability can support the production of compound feeds designed for different animal species and nutritional requirements.
Fixkraft manufactures compound feeds, specialised feeds and animal nutrition products for livestock and companion animals.
Its Enns facility is the company’s main production hub, where it consolidated feed manufacturing operations during the 1990s.
Managing Director Gerald Gruber described the new silo as a commitment to the company’s customers, employees and the wider agricultural sector.
He also highlighted the pressures facing farmers, noting that expectations around sustainability, animal welfare and product quality must be matched by economic conditions that keep agricultural businesses viable.
The expansion is also expected to deliver logistical and environmental benefits. Located at the Danube port in Enns, the facility can use water, rail, and road transport.
The company said the new infrastructure would help reduce road transport requirements and associated carbon dioxide emissions while improving the supply of domestic feed raw materials. The site is also expected to create additional jobs.
Regional Governor Thomas Stelzer emphasised the importance of cooperation between businesses and agriculture in Upper Austria, a region with a strong agricultural economy.
The investment reflects broader efforts within the feed manufacturing sector to improve supply-chain resilience, processing efficiency and raw material quality.
By bringing more processing activities in-house, Fixkraft aims to strengthen its operational capabilities and support the long-term development of Austria’s animal feed industry.
