Haid breaks ground on 200,000-tonne feed mill in Tanzania
Haid is investing in local production capacity in markets where livestock and aquaculture sectors are expanding.
TANZANIA – Chinese feed producer Haid Group has broken ground on a new feed production facility in Mlandizi, Tanzania, as it expands its manufacturing footprint across Africa and strengthens its presence in the region’s growing livestock and aquaculture markets.
The facility will have an annual production capacity of 200,000 tonnes of compound feed, including products for tilapia, layers and broilers.
Haid sees Tanzania as a strategic location for its East African expansion, citing the country’s long coastline, natural resources and potential for further development of aquaculture, agriculture and livestock production.
Haid expands feed manufacturing footprint
The Tanzania investment forms part of Haid’s wider international expansion strategy.
The company has established modern feed factories in Egypt and expanded into other African markets including Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda, while building a broader research, production and technical-service network across key agricultural regions.
The company is also expanding outside Africa.
In August 2026, Haid’s subsidiary Sheng Long Aqua Technology broke ground on its first aquaculture feed manufacturing facility in Malaysia, marking another major investment in Southeast Asia.
The RM140 million (about US$33 million) facility in Kamunting, Perak, will feature two shrimp-feed and two fish-feed production lines with a combined annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes.
It is scheduled to begin operations in 2028 and is expected to create more than 100 jobs.
The Malaysia project will serve both the domestic market and neighbouring countries, positioning the facility as a manufacturing and technical-service hub for the region.
Haid said the investment is intended to strengthen local feed manufacturing, supply-chain resilience and technical support for aquaculture producers.
