Harbro expands UK feed business with Cargill Dalton acquisition

The integration is expected to be completed by early 2027.

UK – Harbro has acquired Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health’s Dalton business in North Yorkshire, including its feed mill and related operations, strengthening the company’s manufacturing capacity and position in the UK animal feed market.

The acquisition is expected to expand Harbro’s product offering while adding expertise in animal nutrition, feed manufacturing and livestock performance.

The Dalton site has a long history in the UK feed industry.

Provimi originally developed it before it became part of Cargill’s animal nutrition operations.

Harbro said it plans to continue investing in the Dalton facility and workforce, with priorities including feed quality, safety, regulatory compliance and nutritional standards.

The company also plans to combine the technical expertise of the two businesses to develop new nutritional solutions for farmers and livestock customers.

“We are delighted to welcome Cargill Dalton’s team into the Harbro Group,” said Chris Baxter, CEO of Harbro Ltd.

“The capability, expertise and standards within the business make it an excellent fit for Harbro and will allow us to expand our offering, strengthen our customer relationships, and deliver even greater value across the UK market.”

Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health said the transaction will allow both companies to focus on their respective areas of the market.

“We thank our Dalton team and their commitment to serving the animal nutrition market in the UK,” said Helene Ziv-Douki, Senior Vice-President of Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health EMEAI and Global Salmon.

“This is the right time to transition the business to Harbro, allowing both organisations to focus on where they can have the greatest impact for their customers.”

Harbro expands manufacturing and nutrition capabilities

The acquisition adds to Harbro’s existing UK feed manufacturing and livestock nutrition operations, giving the company greater capacity to serve farmers and wholesale customers.

The Dalton operation will initially remain a separate company while Harbro integrates its systems and processes.

The integration is expected to be completed by early 2027.

Harbro said the transaction will support continued development of its feed portfolio while combining the companies’ knowledge in nutrition and animal performance.

The move also marks another change in Cargill’s animal nutrition footprint in the UK, as the company transfers the Dalton operation to a local feed business while retaining its wider animal nutrition activities.

Harbro said the combined expertise will help it develop nutritional solutions to improve livestock performance and deliver additional value to farmers and customers across the UK.
