Elanco Ventures will support animal health and One Health innovation

USA – Elanco Animal Health has announced the creation of Elanco Ventures, a dedicated corporate venture capital platform backed by a US$25 million multi-year investment commitment aimed at accelerating innovation across the animal health sector.
The new initiative will focus on investing in emerging therapeutics, digital technologies and other innovations that can advance animal health, improve livestock productivity and support the growing global demand for animal protein.
According to the company, Elanco Ventures will target early-stage businesses, particularly those at the Pre-Seed, Seed and Series A stages of development, providing both capital and strategic support to help promising technologies reach commercial scale.
The launch reflects a broader trend across the animal health industry, where major companies are increasingly turning to partnerships, venture investments and startup collaborations to access new technologies and accelerate product development.
“From pets to protein, the animal health industry has never been more relevant than it is today,” said Jeff Simmons, President and CEO of Elanco.
“Innovation is happening outside of the boundaries of any single company.
Elanco Ventures allows us to strategically leverage the startup landscape to expand our visibility into a range of emerging technologies that help us meet pet owners’ evolving expectations of care and the increasing global demand for protein.”
The company said the fund will initially concentrate on innovations directly related to animal health, including new therapeutic solutions, precision livestock technologies and digital tools that improve disease management, productivity and animal welfare.
Expanding innovation through One Health partnerships
Beyond animal health, Elanco Ventures may also explore opportunities within the broader One Health framework, which recognizes the close connection between animal, human and environmental health.
The venture platform will leverage partnerships within the One Health Innovation District in Indianapolis, a collaborative initiative anchored by Elanco and Purdue University.
The district brings together researchers, entrepreneurs and life science companies to accelerate innovation and commercialization of new technologies.
“Elanco Ventures embodies our commitment to partnership and innovation,” said Tim Bettington, Executive Vice President, Center of Strategic Growth at Elanco.
“By identifying promising startup technologies and collaborating with the One Health Innovation District, we are better positioned to fast-track innovation that can redefine the future of animal health.”
The fund is expected to begin operations in late 2026 under the leadership of Eric Steager, an experienced corporate venture capital executive.
For the livestock sector, increased investment in animal health innovation could support the development of next-generation vaccines, diagnostics, feed efficiency technologies and disease-prevention solutions.
Industry analysts note that such innovations will be increasingly important as producers seek to improve productivity while meeting sustainability targets and responding to evolving consumer expectations.
The launch of Elanco Ventures positions the company among a growing number of global animal health firms using venture capital models to identify emerging technologies and strengthen long-term innovation pipelines in both companion animal and food-animal production systems.
