The company has nearly five decades of experience in animal nutrition across Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles and Rwanda, and began operating in Kenya in 2024.

KENYA – Livestock Feed Ltd (LFL) has launched a complete range of premium tilapia feeds in Kenya, strengthening its footprint in the country’s fast-growing aquaculture sector and positioning itself as a long-term partner for fish farmers seeking improved productivity, fish health and sustainability.
The expanded offering is being rolled out through LFL Operation (Kenya) Ltd, the company’s Kenyan subsidiary, as part of a broader strategy to support domestic fish production at a time when demand for tilapia far outstrips local supply.
Statistics indicate that Kenya’s tilapia market is estimated at about 450,000 tonnes annually, while aquaculture production stands at roughly 35,000 tonnes, creating a significant supply gap that domestic producers are under pressure to fill.
As local producers strive to meet this demand, LFL aims to support them with the nutritional solutions they need through its premium feed offerings.
With nearly five decades of experience in animal nutrition across Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles and Rwanda, LFL began operating in Kenya in 2024, bringing established technical expertise to the local market.
The company produces feed for poultry, fish, ruminants and pets, and operates three main production facilities in Mauritius, Rwanda and Madagascar.
Full-cycle tilapia nutrition now available
LFL’s tilapia feed range in Kenya is designed to support fish throughout the entire production cycle, from fingerlings to harvest. Starter feeds with protein levels of 44–45% are formulated as slow-sinking crumbles below 2mm to promote early development.
As fish progress, pre-grower feeds containing 33–35% protein are supplied as extruded pellets sized between 2mm and 4mm, offering improved water stability and consistent juvenile growth.
For the final growth phase, a 30% protein grower feed in extruded pellets of 4.5mm to 5.5mm is aimed at efficient weight gain and optimal feed conversion.
All feeds are formulated to be highly palatable and digestible, supporting fast growth, good gut health and strong overall performance in commercial tilapia farming.
Production is carried out under ISO 22000 certification, ensuring strict feed safety standards from manufacturing through to consumption. LFL is also investing in upgraded extrusion technology to further enhance feed performance in the future.
Beyond feed supply
LFL says its approach in Kenya goes beyond selling feed. “LFL positions itself not just as a feed supplier, but as a long-term partner for sustainable aquaculture. In addition to feed production, the company provides technical support and practical solutions tailored to local farming conditions,” said Patrick Irimu, Operations Officer for Kenya.
The company works closely with international partners, including ADM Nutrition, to ensure consistent quality, safety and performance across its product portfolio.
Tilapia feeds are now available nationwide, with stock held at Allaid Logistics Kenya’s Broadway Warehouse in Syokimau. LFL offers ex-works pricing from Nairobi and can arrange delivery to farms across the country at an additional, transparent cost.
