Chemlock Nutrition introduces pharma-grade 25OHD3 for animal feed

The product is designed to address concerns around batch variability, contamination risk and regulatory compliance.

USA – Chemlock Nutrition, a leading developer of advanced feed technologies, has launched a new Vitamin D supplement, which it says sets a higher benchmark for purity, consistency and risk control in animal nutrition, as scrutiny around feed ingredient quality continues to intensify globally.

The company introduced Nutrivit® Puri-D®, a 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D3 (25OHD3) product manufactured at what Chemlock describes as the world’s only vertically integrated, pharma-grade 25OHD3 facility.

According to the company, the product is designed to address long-standing concerns among nutritionists and feed formulators around batch variability, contamination risk and regulatory compliance.

Chemlock said Puri-D® is the only “full” 25OHD3 for which 100% of batches are produced using the same process in the same facility, enabling tight control over quality and consistency.

Unlike conventional 25OHD3 products that rely on multi-step chemical synthesis or fermentation, Puri-D® is produced using a patented enzymatic conversion process that converts vitamin D3 into its 25-hydroxy form in a single, highly specific step.

Removing variables to reduce risk

According to Chemlock, eliminating production variables significantly reduces the risk of contamination with 1,25 Hydroxy Vitamin D, a highly regulated hormone that can pose safety and compliance challenges if present even in trace amounts.

The company said the risk of such contamination is “almost zero,” resulting in a higher-purity final product.

Chemlock also guarantees that Puri-D® is 100% free of impurities and reports that the product is flown into the United States rather than transported by sea to maximise shelf life.

Every batch undergoes third-party testing prior to release, and the company said no batches have ever been rejected.

Nutritionists and feed formulators can’t afford uncertainty when it comes to the purity of the ingredients they are feeding animals,” said Dr. Grant Shouldice, Vice President of Chemistry, Quality and Innovation at Chemlock Nutrition.

Unlike other products on the market, which rely on fermentation, manufacturing Puri-D® with enzymatic conversion uses a highly specific proprietary enzyme to convert vitamin D3 into its 25-hydroxy form with no side reactions, resulting in a high-purity, hormone-free product you can trust.”

Setting a new industry benchmark

Chemlock said that scientific leaders behind the Puri-D® production facility worked with the Chinese Feed Industry Association to help define an exceptionally stringent standard for 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D and related impurities.

The company added that its in-house chemists collaborated with leading laboratories to advance and refine testing methodologies, ensuring FDA specifications for the molecule can be met without ambiguity.

Based on information provided by Chemlock, Puri-D® is the only OMRI-certified full-dose 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D3 available in the US market for organic producers.

It is AAFCO-approved for broilers and has GRAS approval for use in swine and dairy cows, positioning it for broad application across major livestock sectors.

The product launch follows another significant development for the company. Chemlock Nutrition recently appointed industry veteran Simon Walley as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a strategic leadership transition as the company expands its portfolio of advanced mineral and vitamin technologies.

Walley brings more than 25 years of experience across human and animal nutrition, having held senior leadership roles at Fonterra, Danisco Animal Nutrition, Biomin and DSM-Firmenich, and most recently serving as President of ADM Animal Nutrition North America.
