These new products aim to deliver tangible benefits to African fish farmers navigating a rapidly evolving aquaculture landscape.

KENYA – Tunga Nutrition Kenya, a partnership between Unga Farm Care (EA) Limited and Skretting, introduced two groundbreaking tilapia feed products, NutriPond and Optiline- Powered by Aminova, at the recently concluded World Aquaculture Safari 2025.
Held at Uganda’s Speke Resort Munyonyo from June 24–27, the four-day conference brought together stakeholders from across Africa and the Middle East, including farmers, investors, researchers, and government officials.
Among the many highlights, the unveiling of Skretting’s new products stood out as a pivotal moment for regional aquafeed development.
Nature-driven innovation with NutriPond
NutriPond is Skretting’s first tilapia diet tailored specifically for extensive pond farming systems.
Designed with a higher carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, it supports the growth of beneficial microorganisms such as zooplankton, algae, and bacteria—key components of the pond food web that serve as a natural nutrient source for tilapia.
Available in floating pellets of 2.0mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm, NutriPond is nutritionally complete, with crude protein levels ranging from 25% to 30% and formulated with wheat bran, soybean meal, meat and bone meal, and soy oil.
By stimulating the natural productivity of the pond, it reduces the need for supplementary feed, effectively lowering the feed conversion ratio (FCR) while improving growth and survival rates.
The product also features a unique dual-nourishment approach. While supporting fish growth, the feed’s specific blend of non-starch polysaccharides fosters microbial life that tilapia can consume, aligning with the company’s sustainability mission of Feeding the Future.
“We created NutriPond, a diet that aims to nourish both the pond and the tilapia,” said Tanja van Dongen, Portfolio Manager at Skretting.
“By feeding NutriPond, farmers are able to provide a natural environment for the tilapia while still getting great growth results. Creating this more natural environment does not only actively reduce the FCR but even increases survival rates. That is what working with nature can do.”
Enhanced efficiency with Optiline – Powered by Aminova
The second major launch, Optiline – Powered by Aminova, targets semi-intensive and intensive farming systems and is engineered for maximum feed efficiency.
AmiNova is Skretting’s latest feed formulation concept, designed to deliver ultra‑precise fish nutrition by focusing on digestible amino acids rather than just crude or digestible protein levels.
Formulated with optimised digestible nutrients and designed to be gentle on the fish’s digestive system, Optiline seeks to ensure consistent quality and superior growth.
The extruded floating feed comes in 2.0mm, 3.0mm, 4.5mm, and a new 6.0mm pellet, ideal for farms targeting tilapia up to 1kg in weight.
Protein levels vary from 27% to 34%, depending on pellet size, and digestible energy values are carefully adjusted to meet the growth needs of each life stage.
By supporting protein efficiency and reducing nutrient discharge, Optiline is not only beneficial to fish growth and fillet yields but also promotes environmental sustainability.
It is produced using a flexible raw material base that includes soybean meal, poultry meal, and corn by-products, among others.
The launches signal Skretting’s strategic intent to support aquaculture growth in Africa and the Middle East, where the demand for meat protein is expected to rise by 35% over the next decade.
Tunga Nutrition Kenya and Skretting’s operating companies from Nigeria, Egypt, and Kenya jointly participated in the Safari event, reflecting a coordinated effort to foster innovation across the region.
With a global footprint spanning 19 countries and over 2 million tonnes of feed produced annually, Skretting continues to demonstrate leadership in aquafeed innovation.
These new products, developed with a deep understanding of regional farming needs, aim to deliver tangible benefits to African fish farmers navigating a rapidly evolving aquaculture landscape.
