BinSentry, Distynct partner in real-time livestock monitoring

CANADA – BinSentry and Distynct Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to become Preferred Partners, combining feed inventory management and livestock barn monitoring technologies to give protein producers greater real-time visibility across their operations.

The partnership will allow customers to pair BinSentry’s feed monitoring technology with Distynct’s barn alarm and environmental monitoring systems.

The companies said the combined solutions will provide producers and integrators with data covering conditions inside livestock barns, feed bins and feed supply chains.

“BinSentry and Distynct offer complementary solutions that can help protein producers make the critical leap from outdated manual systems to automated, data-based decision-making and efficiency,” said Ben Allen, CEO of BinSentry.

“BinSentry will focus on the movement and consumption of feed – the most expensive part of raising animals – while Distynct provides around-the-clock environmental monitoring inside the barn.”

BinSentry’s technology uses optical sensors and AI-powered algorithms to create three-dimensional images of feed surfaces inside farm feed bins and ingredient bins at feed mills.

The resulting data provides producers and feed mills with real-time information on feed inventory and consumption through remotely accessible digital dashboards.

Distynct’s system monitors conditions, including water, temperature, and power, in livestock and poultry barns around the clock. 

The platform is designed to integrate with existing farm infrastructure and can be deployed across operations ranging from individual sites to large production networks.

BJ Brugman, founder and CEO of Distynct, said the partnership would connect information from different points of the production system.

“Distynct was developed as an open platform to work with other technologies and answer critical questions about conditions inside animal barns, then put that information at producers’ fingertips, anywhere, anytime,” he said.

Digital technology targets feed efficiency and farm resilience

The partnership reflects the livestock sector’s growing use of connected technologies to improve feed management, reduce waste and strengthen operational resilience.

Feed represents one of the highest costs in animal production, making accurate monitoring of inventory and consumption important for both producers and feed suppliers.

By combining feed-bin data with environmental information from livestock barns, BinSentry and Distynct aim to give producers a more complete view of factors affecting animal production and feed use.

The companies said the Preferred Partner arrangement will also support data integration between their respective technologies, allowing customers to manage information from feed bins, barns and supply chains through connected systems.

The collaboration targets protein producers and integrators seeking to move from manual monitoring to automated, data-driven management of livestock operations.
