Purina launches FortiFlora diarrhoea response kits for pets

USA – Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Supplements has launched the FortiFlora Diarrhoea Response Kit for dogs and cats, combining short-term diarrhoea management with daily probiotic supplementation to support digestive health.

The non-prescription kit uses a two-step approach. 

The first step involves FortiFlora Response stick packs containing kaolin and pectin, which are designed to help firm loose stools and soothe the gastrointestinal tract.

Purina recommends administering one stick pack every eight hours for up to 72 hours. 

The liver-flavoured powder can be mixed with food, eliminating the need for pills or paste.

Once the short-term response period is complete, pet owners can switch to the FortiFlora sachets included in the kit for daily digestive support. 

The sachets contain Enterococcus lactis SF68, a single-strain probiotic that Purina says has been clinically studied and used by veterinarians for 20 years.

“No one wants their pet to be uncomfortable, and diarrhoea can be stressful for pets and owners,” said Martha Cline, DVM, DACVIM, Purina Veterinary Nutritionist.

“The FortiFlora Diarrhoea Response Kit gives pet owners a clear, two-step plan, rooted in the same probiotic veterinarians have trusted for 20 years.”

Growing focus on digestive health in pet nutrition

The launch adds to growing activity around digestive health products within the pet nutrition market, as manufacturers increasingly combine targeted nutritional interventions with probiotics and other functional ingredients.

Purina said FortiFlora is the number-one veterinarian-recommended probiotic brand for digestive health, based on a fourth-quarter 2025 survey of US veterinarians who ranked it among their top one to three recommended brands.

The company recommends continuing daily FortiFlora supplementation after completing the kit to support ongoing digestive and immune health.

Purina also advises pet owners to seek veterinary guidance if diarrhoea is accompanied by vomiting, changes in appetite or energy, becomes worse or does not improve within three days.

Owners are also advised to record details such as frequency, blood or mucus and straining, while a faecal sample can help veterinarians check for parasites.

The FortiFlora Diarrhoea Response Kit is available for cats and dogs through Amazon, Chewy, VetDirect.com and veterinarians. 

Suggested retail prices range from US$34.99 for cats and small dogs to US$42.99 for large dogs.
