CANADA – Trouw Nutrition, Nutreco’s livestock feed business, has unveiled new research on precision nutrition, predictive modelling, and gut health at the 27th World Poultry Congress (WPC) in Toronto, Canada, aimed at improving poultry performance, nutrient efficiency, and flock resilience.
The company presented seven scientific papers highlighting nutrition strategies designed to optimise bird performance, improve feed efficiency and support more sustainable poultry production under increasingly challenging commercial conditions.
Researchers shared findings from studies conducted at Trouw Nutrition’s global poultry research centres, commercial farms and in collaboration with university partners.
Among the key studies were investigations into optimising dietary calcium and digestible phosphorus to improve skeletal development, nutrient digestibility and growth during critical production stages.
Scientists also evaluated phase-specific calcium and phosphorus feeding programmes for broilers, demonstrating how changing nutrient requirements influence body composition and overall performance throughout the production cycle.
“Achieving flock performance objectives, complying with evolving regulations and practicing environmental stewardship is becoming increasingly complex in a marketplace offering many tools and technologies,” said Jose Manuel De La Fuente Garcia, Global Marketing Manager Poultry at Trouw Nutrition.
“Assuring the validity of any approach requires investments in scientific research to validate the approach from an animal health and welfare perspective, as well as the feasibility of production economics,” he added.
Predictive modelling supports precision feeding
Another major focus of the research was the use of predictive nutritional modelling to improve feed formulation and economic returns.
According to Trouw Nutrition, integrating animal performance data with nutritional and economic metrics enables producers to better predict the biological and financial outcomes of different feeding strategies, supporting more precise diet formulation and higher returns on feed investment.
The company also presented new findings on gut health, focusing on nutritional interventions that strengthen intestinal integrity and improve flock resilience.
Studies examining raised-without-antibiotics (RWA) production evaluated how low-crude-protein diets interact with antibiotic-free production systems, measuring their effects on broiler growth, organ development and body composition.
Additional research investigated nutrient utilisation following fatty liver syndrome challenges in laying hens, providing new insights into how nutrition can support recovery and long-term productivity.
Scientists also presented research on PhytoComplex technologies and their potential to improve birds’ resilience to production and environmental stress.
Alongside the scientific presentations, Trouw Nutrition hosted an expert session titled “From Insight to Impact: Transforming Poultry Nutrition.”
The programme featured presentations on trace mineral optimisation, predictive nutrition models and plant-based nutritional solutions designed to improve poultry health and performance.
The research reflects growing industry interest in precision nutrition as poultry producers seek to improve feed efficiency, reduce production costs and meet stricter sustainability and animal welfare requirements while maintaining high levels of productivity.
