The partnership’s central objective is to support producers in accurately measuring environmental footprints, calculating emissions, and verifying reductions.
DENMARK – dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bureau Veritas Solutions Denmark A/S to promote verified and credible sustainability practices across the global feed and animal protein value chain.
The agreement, unveiled this month, brings together dsm-firmenich’s Sustell™ life cycle assessment (LCA) platform with Bureau Veritas’s global expertise in testing, inspection, and certification.
The partnership’s central objective is to support producers in accurately measuring environmental footprints, calculating emissions, and verifying reductions, ultimately making sustainability a measurable business asset.
“At dsm-firmenich, we believe that unlocking the value of feed and food’s environmental footprint is the most effective way to achieve long-lasting sustainability gains while ensuring farmers have sufficient incomes,” said Dr. Heinz Flatnitzer, Head of Emissions Value Management at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health.
Heinz added that this new strategic partnership will not only demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices but also verify Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculations and emissions reductions.
“By making sustainability a business driver rather than a cost component, we help to unleash sustainable transformation from farm to fork.”
By integrating the data insights offered by Sustell™ with Bureau Veritas’s independent verification capabilities, the initiative will enable animal protein producers to transform environmental improvements into quantifiable business value.
“As a global leader in testing, inspecting and certification services, we value precision and innovative solutions,” said Tomas Riegels-Jørgensen, Sales & Marketing Manager at Bureau Veritas Denmark.
“We are delighted to collaborate with dsm-firmenich’s Sustell™ to promote a credible carbon footprint reduction. This partnership supports the journey towards more sustainable business practices in the animal protein industry.”
The alliance comes at a critical time as the industry faces growing pressure from consumers, regulators, and investors to improve transparency and reduce its environmental footprint. The partners emphasise that traceability and verifiable data are key to driving lasting change.
Farm-to-fork cooperation based on credible data, they argue, offers the best opportunity for the industry to meet increasingly stringent reporting requirements while simultaneously improving operational efficiency and environmental outcomes.
The Sustell™ platform enables users to analyse on-farm emissions and evaluate the effects of nutritional interventions, providing a science-based foundation for continuous improvement.
The partnership also seeks to strengthen the traceability of sustainability efforts throughout the supply chain.
This increased transparency is expected to support industry players in meeting environmental targets while reinforcing consumer trust in sustainable animal protein.
“This collaboration allows sustainability to become a driver of value rather than a cost, helping farmers balance environmental and income goals,” added Dr. Flatnitzer.
