United Petfood expands North American footprint

United Petfood has agreed to acquire a dry pet food plant in Arkansas, adding a third production site to its North American network.

USA – United Petfood has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a dry pet food production facility in Decatur, Arkansas, from Wellness Pet Company, expanding its North American manufacturing network and strengthening local production capabilities.

Announced on 22 September 2026, the transaction also includes a long-term supply agreement between the two companies.

The Decatur facility will become United Petfood’s third production site in North America, joining its existing facilities in Mishawaka, Indiana, and Drummondville, Quebec.

The Belgian-based company said the acquisition is part of its long-term growth strategy in North America, providing additional capacity and flexibility to serve customers in the region.

“The Decatur site gives us additional capacity and flexibility to respond to our customers’ needs. It is another important step in strengthening our production footprint across North America,” said Dries Eeckhout, CEO of United Petfood Group.

“By expanding our local presence, we can combine the advantages of local production with the expertise and capabilities of our international network of pet kitchens, enabling us to continue growing alongside our customers,” he added.

United Petfood specialises in private-label dry and wet pet food, treats and snacks for retailers and pet food brands.

Its expanding manufacturing network supports customers across multiple markets and product categories.

The acquisition builds on the company’s 2024 entry into the US market, when it acquired Wellness Pet Company’s production facility in Mishawaka, Indiana.

The Decatur deal further develops that relationship, with the long-term supply agreement allowing the companies to maintain a commercial connection following the transaction.

The expanded North American footprint gives United Petfood additional regional manufacturing capacity to support private-label customers.

Local production can help manufacturers respond to customer requirements, manage production schedules and support supply continuity across retail pet food ranges.

The transaction also adds to United Petfood’s wider international growth strategy, which has included acquisitions and investments to expand its production network and serve customers closer to their markets.

With the Decatur facility, United Petfood is strengthening its manufacturing presence in North America while retaining the support of its broader international production network.
