The new product line includes species-specific snacks such as gummies with flavours like sweet algae, anchoveta and liquorice.

DENMARK – BioMar has introduced a new range of functional “sweet treats” for fish and shrimp, marking a shift toward more interactive feeding approaches in aquaculture while maintaining a focus on performance and nutrition.
The new product line, set to launch this spring, includes species-specific snacks such as gummies with flavours like sweet algae, anchoveta and liquorice.
The products are designed to complement standard feed formulations while enhancing feeding engagement and behavioural stimulation in fish and shrimp.
According to BioMar, internal trials indicate that improved feeding interaction can support growth performance and overall animal welfare.
The concept focuses on combining palatability and texture with nutritional requirements, aligning with broader industry efforts to optimise feeding efficiency.
“At BioMar, we’ve always focused on performance and nutrition,” said Joana Silva, Head of Product Marketing Salmon at BioMar.
“With this new range, we wanted to explore how feeding can also be a point of interaction and engagement, while staying true to what fish and shrimp actually need.”
The launch reflects growing interest in precision feeding strategies in aquaculture, where behavioural responses and feed intake patterns are increasingly seen as important factors in performance outcomes.
Sustainability and raw material innovation gain momentum
The product innovation comes alongside BioMar’s broader sustainability efforts in 2026, particularly in raw material sourcing.
Earlier this year, BioMar Iberia launched a pilot project to incorporate wheat sourced from regenerative agriculture into aquafeed formulations, in collaboration with Cefetra.
The initiative aims to reduce emissions at the raw material level, which accounts for more than 80% of aquaculture’s environmental footprint.
By integrating regenerative wheat, the company is working to lower its carbon intensity, improve soil health, and strengthen supply chain resilience.
“This pilot represents a real opportunity to improve the environmental impact of our raw materials,” said Rocío Álvaro González, Sustainability Leader at BioMar West Mediterranean. “Wheat from regenerative agriculture provides verified CO₂ reductions and enables us to advance in the tangible restoration of soils.”
BioMar plans to assess the initiative’s scalability throughout 2026, aiming to expand the use of regenerative ingredients across its feed portfolio.
“Our objective is to establish a broader agreement for the 2026–2027 campaign and move towards a consolidated supply of raw materials from the circular economy for the region,” said Sebastián Díaz Montecinos, Purchasing Director at BioMar West Mediterranean.
