TFM secures Halal certification for 48 aquafeed products

THAILAND – Thai Union Feedmill Public Company Limited (TFM) has secured Halal Certification from the Central Islamic Council of Thailand for 48 shrimp and fish feed products, supporting the company’s plans to expand its aquafeed business in the Middle East and ASEAN markets.

The certification covers 48 SKUs and strengthens TFM’s ability to serve aquaculture customers operating in markets where Halal standards are an important consideration.

TFM CEO Peerasak Boonmeechote said the certification strengthens the company’s product standards and readiness to serve customers that prioritise quality, safety and traceability.

The company said the certification is particularly relevant to aquaculture producers and processors supplying Muslim markets, where Halal requirements are increasingly considered across the value chain.

Halal aquafeed opens new export opportunities

TFM said the certification could help it expand its customer base among industrial-scale aquaculture farms and integrated aquaculture operators, while supporting market expansion in the Middle East, Malaysia and Bangladesh.

The company views Halal feed as part of a broader “Halal from Farm to Table” approach, covering the aquaculture supply chain from feed inputs through to finished seafood products.

TFM said its quality controls cover raw material selection and management, supplier and business partner cooperation, production processes and personnel management to ensure compliance with the Halal Assurance System.

The certification also comes as aquaculture industries in several markets seek to expand domestic production to strengthen food security and reduce dependence on imports.

TFM said seasonal demand around Ramadan and Hari Raya can also influence aquaculture production cycles and advance feed purchasing in Muslim-majority markets.

The company plans to extend Halal Certification to its Ranot plant in Songkhla Province, which would strengthen its ability to supply customers in southern Thailand and international markets.

TFM said the expansion will form part of its wider development under Thai Union Group’s SeaChange® 2030 strategy, which focuses on sustainable growth, quality, innovation and international standards.

Certification builds on ASC Feed credentials

The Halal certification adds to TFM’s existing certification portfolio. 

The company said it was the first aquafeed manufacturing facility in Asia to achieve ASC Feed certification, a global standard for responsible aquafeed production.

“With our commitment to elevating product quality and production standards to international requirements, TFM became the first aquafeed manufacturing facility in Asia to achieve ASC Feed certification,” Peerasak said.

“Together with Halal Certification, these certifications further strengthen our competitiveness and create opportunities to reach new customers and international markets,” he added.

TFM said the two certifications will support its ambition to strengthen its position as a leading aquafeed producer in the region while expanding its international customer base and long-term revenue opportunities.
