UKRAINE – KMZ Industries, a manufacturer of grain storage and processing systems, has commissioned a new integrated feed mill facility for an agricultural enterprise in Ukraine’s Cherkasy region, significantly expanding on-site feed storage capacity and strengthening vertical integration in the country’s poultry sector.
The installation delivers a total storage capacity exceeding 9,000 tons.
It introduces a high-throughput material-handling system designed to improve feed production efficiency, reduce reliance on external suppliers, and enhance supply chain resilience amid volatile logistics conditions.
The project reflects a broader shift in Ukraine’s livestock industry, where producers are increasingly investing in in-house feed production systems to gain greater control over quality, costs, and input availability.
The facility’s core infrastructure consists of three large flat-bottom silos, each with a capacity of 3,075 tons.
Together, these units provide the bulk of the storage base, allowing the enterprise to handle large volumes of grain and feed components during peak harvest and production periods.
In addition, the site includes three hopper-bottom silos with a capacity of 80 cubic meters each, along with three operational hopper-bottom silos with a capacity of 81 cubic meters each.
These smaller units are intended for short-term storage and immediate feed processing, ensuring a continuous flow between raw material intake and compound feed output.
A conveying system rated at 100 tons per hour supports internal logistics, enabling rapid material movement between storage and processing units.
The system is reinforced by gravity-flow equipment that reduces mechanical handling and supports uninterrupted production cycles.
Logistics redesign supports operational efficiency
Beyond physical infrastructure, KMZ Industries implemented a tailored logistics redesign for the site, including an optimised truck movement scheme to streamline vehicle access, reduce unloading times, and prevent congestion during peak operational periods such as harvest seasons.
According to KMZ Industries regional manager Yurii Musiienko, integrated “full-cycle” projects are becoming the standard model for modern agribusiness in Ukraine.
He noted that controlling production from raw grain intake through to finished feed output is increasingly seen as the most effective strategy for managing rising costs and maintaining operational stability.
The Cherkasy installation is part of a wider national trend in which agricultural enterprises are shifting toward closed-loop production systems.
By internalising feed production, companies are reducing exposure to supply chain disruptions, currency fluctuations, and transportation bottlenecks that have affected agricultural markets in recent years.
Industry observers say poultry and swine producers, in particular, are driving demand for such systems, as feed accounts for the largest share of production costs in livestock operations.
KMZ Industries has been expanding its presence in this segment, including participation in a 2026 tender to supply 16 metal silos for a separate feed mill expansion project in the Kharkiv region.
The company’s portfolio includes silos, drying systems, and automated handling solutions, and it operates in a competitive regional market alongside international engineering firms such as AGI and Bühler.
As Ukraine’s livestock sector gradually stabilises, investment in modern feed infrastructure is expected to continue, particularly as producers seek to improve energy efficiency, automate operations, and secure more predictable input supplies.
The Cherkasy facility illustrates how infrastructure upgrades are increasingly central to competitiveness in the country’s poultry production value chain.
