USA – Elanco Animal Health Inc., a leading animal health company, is set to invest US$130 million to renovate its manufacturing facility in Elwood, Kansas.
Elanco Animal Health Incorporated is an American pharmaceutical company that produces medicines and vaccinations for pets and livestock. Until 2019, it was a subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly made the investment announcement on August 20, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding its operations and supporting local economic growth.
The renovation project in Doniphan County is anticipated to create approximately 70 new jobs over the next two years.
The Elwood facility currently manufactures and ships Elanco’s canine parvovirus monoclonal antibody and will become the company’s flagship location for future monoclonal antibody manufacturing.
This expansion is a strategic move to increase capacity and support Elanco’s continued innovation in monoclonal antibodies, which play a critical role in veterinary medicine.
Grace McArdle, Elanco’s Executive Vice President of Manufacturing and Quality, emphasised the importance of this expansion, stating, “Expanding the capabilities at our Elwood manufacturing site is a critical step toward executing the most exciting pipeline in Elanco’s 70-year history.”
The project is expected to boost the local economy by increasing tax revenue and providing stable, long-term employment opportunities in Elwood.
The upgraded facility will also enhance Elanco’s ability to meet customer demands more efficiently, with improved project development and commercialisation lead times.
Burns & McDonnell, a Kansas City-based design-build firm known for its integrated design and construction services, is spearheading the expansion project.
This collaboration ensures that the renovation will meet the highest standards of quality and innovation.
Elanco’s investment in Kansas is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its operations and market presence.
In December 2020, the company announced plans to establish its consolidated headquarters in downtown Indianapolis, further solidifying its commitment to growth and development in the animal health industry.
The Elwood facility’s renovation marks a significant milestone for Elanco as it continues to innovate and expand its product offerings.
This will ultimately contribute to the advancement of veterinary care and the local community’s economic well-being.
