Mars launches Greenies Pill Pockets to simplify dog medication

The product range was developed in response to consumer research commissioned by Greenies.

USA – Pet care brand Greenies, a subsidiary of Mars, has expanded its portfolio with the launch of Greenies Pill Pockets, a new dog treat designed to simplify medication administration by allowing owners to conceal tablets in a soft, moldable snack.

The product is designed to address one of the most common challenges faced by pet owners, getting dogs to take prescribed medication.

It features a built-in pouch that securely wraps around veterinary tablets, providing an alternative to hiding pills in foods such as cheese or peanut butter.

The launch strengthens Mars’ position in the growing pet health and wellness market, where companies are increasingly developing products that improve treatment compliance while enhancing the ownership experience.

According to consumer research commissioned by Greenies, many dog owners struggle to administer medication and often resort to disguising pills in human foods.

The company estimates that, over a dog’s lifetime, owners using traditional methods could use the equivalent of around 24kg of cheese or 79 tubs of peanut butter to conceal medication.

Greenies Pill Pockets aim to eliminate that practice by offering a purpose-designed solution that integrates medication into a treat that dogs readily accept.

The treats are available in Peanut Butter and Smokey Ham flavours and use a soft, flexible texture that allows owners to wrap and seal tablets inside before feeding.

Nicola Paroissien of Greenies said the product was developed to make medication routines less stressful for both dogs and their owners.

“Giving medication to your dog can often feel stressful for both pets and their owners, with many pet parents avoiding pill time altogether,” Paroissien said.

“We created Pill Pockets to help take this struggle away, turning a sometimes twice-daily challenge into a simpler, more positive experience that dogs actually enjoy.”

She added that the product allows owners to spend less time worrying about medication and more time with their pets.

The launch builds on Mars’ continued investment in pet care innovation through its portfolio of brands, which spans nutrition, veterinary services and pet health products.

Greenies Pill Pockets are initially available through major Australian pet retailers, including Petstock and Pet Circle, with a recommended retail price of US$20.70.

The introduction reflects growing demand for products that support pet health while making routine care more convenient for owners, particularly as companion animal healthcare continues to evolve beyond nutrition into preventive and therapeutic solutions.
