Aboitiz Foods said the move will enhance its ability to develop evidence-based nutrition solutions and improve feed efficiency

SINGAPORE – Aboitiz Foods has acquired an aquaculture research and development facility from Adisseo in Singapore, marking a strategic move to strengthen its science-led and data-driven capabilities in aquafeed and aquatic animal health.
The acquisition, completed through its subsidiary Gold Coin Management Holdings, gives Aboitiz Foods access to a specialised R&D site located at the Singapore Food Agency’s Marine Aquaculture Centre on St. John’s Island.
The facility is equipped with advanced recirculating aquaculture systems designed to support controlled trials, digestibility studies and performance validation.
Aboitiz Foods said the move will enhance its ability to develop evidence-based nutrition solutions and improve feed efficiency, animal health and production outcomes for key farmed species across Asia.
“Our focus remains on strengthening the core of our agribusiness,” said Tristan Aboitiz.
“Deepening our R&D capability ensures that the solutions we bring to market are proven in practice and responsive to the operational realities our customers face.”
Strengthening data-driven aquaculture innovation
The company described the acquisition as part of a broader shift towards data-driven aquaculture, as producers face increasing pressure to improve efficiency, resilience and environmental performance.
Owning a dedicated R&D facility in a global innovation hub is expected to accelerate product development and support the company’s “Project Eureka” initiative, which aims to advance aquaculture through scientific trials and multi-species research.
The facility will support the development of feed solutions for species including tilapia, shrimp, milkfish, pangasius, and sea bass, aligning with growing regional demand for high-performance, sustainable aquaculture inputs.
The move also comes as countries across Asia, including the Philippines, scale up investments in aquaculture to meet rising protein demand.
Strengthening research capabilities is seen as critical to improving productivity while addressing challenges in feed efficiency, disease management, and environmental impact.
Aboitiz Foods said the acquisition builds on its recent expansion strategy in high-growth segments, including its earlier purchase of Singapore-based Diasham Resources.
The company added that integrating advanced R&D into its operations will help deliver more targeted, science-backed solutions to customers across the aquaculture value chain.
