Purina to officially open US$550M Ohio pet food factory in August

The event will bring together company leadership, local and state officials, community partners and associates to celebrate the facility’s transition to full production.

USA – Nestlé Purina PetCare has announced that its new pet food manufacturing facility in Batavia, Ohio, will hold its official grand opening this August, marking another milestone in the activation of what the company describes as its most advanced pet food factory in the United States.

The opening ceremony will bring together company executives, local and state officials, community partners and employees to celebrate the facility’s transition to full-scale production.

The Batavia plant represents a US$550 million investment and is Purina’s first ground-up factory construction project in the U.S. since 1975.

The company said the facility reflects its long-term commitment to domestic manufacturing, supply chain expansion and job creation.

“We are looking forward to officially opening the doors of our Batavia factory and celebrating this historic moment for our team,” said Mike Ferritto, factory manager for Purina Batavia.

“As one of the largest investments Nestlé has made in a Purina manufacturing facility to date, this facility represents the future of pet food manufacturing. The factory combines world-class innovation with the talented workforce here in Clermont County.”

The facility is already producing dry cat and dog food products under several of Purina’s science-based brands, including Purina Pro Plan, Purina ONE and Dog Chow.

Purina said the factory currently employs more than 340 workers, with staffing expected to exceed 500 once the operation reaches full capacity.

The investment also strengthens the Cincinnati region’s food manufacturing sector, which includes more than 300 food and flavouring companies.

“By investing in state-of-the-art manufacturing infrastructure and partnering with committed communities like Clermont County, we’re building a facility that will serve pet owners and their beloved companions for generations to come,” said Nina Leigh Krueger.

“Our new Batavia factory will play a vital role in strengthening our supply chain and ensuring families across the country have access to the trusted Purina products their pets thrive on.”

The Batavia operation will become Purina’s 24th manufacturing facility in the United States and is part of the company’s broader efforts to modernise production capacity amid growing demand for premium pet nutrition products.

Beyond manufacturing, Purina highlighted its community support initiatives in Clermont County, where the company says it has contributed more than US$346,000 through the Purina Foundation to organisations including emergency services, law enforcement agencies and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

The grand opening event is expected to feature remarks by Purina executives and local government officials on the facility’s economic impact and its contribution to manufacturing growth in Ohio.

The announcement follows Purina’s earlier operational milestone at the site.
