The acquisition adds a leading, clinically studied muscle health brand and its patented Fortetropin® ingredient technology to PetIQ.

USA – PetIQ has strengthened its position in the growing pet wellness market with the acquisition of MYOS Corp. and its Fortetropin® muscle health product portfolio, expanding its range of veterinary and consumer nutrition solutions for companion animals.
The acquisition, completed for an undisclosed amount, adds MYOS’ portfolio of muscle health supplements and veterinary-exclusive formulations to PetIQ’s pet health and wellness business.
The deal also brings the patented Fortetropin® ingredient technology, which supports muscle growth and preservation in companion animals, into PetIQ’s expanding portfolio of pet medications, supplements and wellness products.
“Pet parents are increasingly looking for solutions that support their pets’ mobility, recovery, and long-term vitality, not just treatment after a problem arises,” said Camillo Pane, Chief Executive Officer of PetIQ.
“MYOS has spent over a decade working alongside veterinarians to understand the science around muscle health, leading to the development of Fortetropin® as a proprietary, differentiated, clinically supported ingredient.
Adding MYOS to our leading branded portfolio allows us to enter the fast-growing muscle health category and meet pet owners’ growing interest in preventive health, mobility preservation, and quality of life for their pets.”
Fortetropin® is a proprietary bioactive compound that works by modulating myostatin, a naturally occurring protein that regulates muscle growth.
According to MYOS, the ingredient helps build muscle, improve mobility and reduce muscle loss associated with ageing, injury and surgery.
The technology is supported by more than a dozen clinical studies involving humans and companion animals, including dogs, cats and horses.
The acquisition reflects growing demand for preventive pet healthcare, with owners increasingly seeking nutritional products that support mobility, healthy ageing and long-term quality of life rather than treating health conditions after they develop.
Muscle health has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments within the companion animal supplement market as pets live longer and veterinarians place greater emphasis on maintaining mobility throughout ageing.
“We’re very excited to partner with PetIQ,” said Joe Mannello, CEO of MYOS Corp.
“PetIQ’s distribution reach, brand-building expertise, and operating discipline are exactly what MYOS and Fortetropin® need to realise their full potential and reach more pet owners globally.”
PetIQ said the MYOS product portfolio will become a core part of its broader health and wellness business, while the MYOS brand and Fortetropin® ingredient will continue to be marketed under their existing names to maintain brand recognition among veterinarians and pet owners.
