Kalmbach Feeds acquires Ohio grain facility to strengthen feed supply

USA – Kalmbach Feeds has acquired the C&O grain elevator and rail transload facility in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, from Mennel Milling, strengthening its access to local corn, soybeans and wheat for its animal nutrition and feed operations.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition, announced August 28, adds nearly 2 million bushels of licensed grain storage capacity and high-capacity rail transloading to Kalmbach’s operations. 

The facility is served by CSX railroad.

Kalmbach said the deal strengthens its investments across feed, pet food and ingredient manufacturing and distribution.

“We’re excited about the capabilities this facility adds to our footprint, allowing us to better serve our customers for generations to come,” said Paul Kalmbach Jr., president of Kalmbach Feeds.

The company said the facility will expand its direct access to locally sourced grain, supporting its feed manufacturing operations and supply chain.

Mennel said the sale reflects changes in market conditions in Wyandot County and its long-term operating strategy.

Kalmbach Feeds is headquartered in Fostoria, Ohio, while Mennel operates 11 grain elevators across Ohio, Indiana and Virginia.
