Purina relaunches GOURMET Perle cat food range, introduces Ocean Flakes recipes

EUROPE – Nestlé Purina PetCare Europe has relaunched its GOURMET™ Perle cat food range and introduced a new fish-based product line, GOURMET™ Perle Ocean Flakes, as the company seeks to meet growing consumer demand for premium pet food products made with quality ingredients and responsibly sourced fish.

The relaunch places renewed focus on the range’s ingredient quality, recipe preparation and product craftsmanship, targeting cat owners increasingly interested in transparency, nutrition and elevated feeding experiences for their pets.

Designed for cats that enjoy variety and refined textures, the GOURMET™ Perle range features a collection of daily recipes prepared with carefully selected ingredients and balanced nutrition. 

Purina said the refreshed range aims to highlight the attention to detail behind each recipe, from ingredient selection to texture and presentation.

A key feature of the relaunch is the introduction of GOURMET™ Perle Ocean Flakes, a new fish-rich range inspired by the delicate flakes commonly found in human cuisine.

The new line includes four recipes: with saithe, plaice, cod and salmon. 

According to Purina, each recipe contains delicate fish cuts carefully cooked in a light gravy, creating a distinctive flaked texture intended to appeal to cats that prefer a more refined eating experience.

Premiumisation drives innovation in cat food

The launch reflects broader trends in the pet food sector, where manufacturers are increasingly developing premium products that mirror human food preferences while meeting nutritional requirements for companion animals.

The relaunch is supported by Purina’s new “Shine Like a Pearl” campaign, which emphasises the care, craftsmanship and attention to detail involved in developing the GOURMET™ Perle portfolio.

“At GOURMET™ Perle, we’ve always focused on the details that matter – from carefully prepared recipes to textures cats love,” said Elisa Riboldi, Chief Marketing Officer at Purina Europe.

“This relaunch, brought to life through our ‘Shine Like a Pearl’ campaign, builds on that heritage, combining quality ingredients, daily craftsmanship and innovations like Ocean Flakes to create a more refined mealtime experience.”

The company said the new Ocean Flakes range also supports its broader sustainability commitments through responsible sourcing initiatives.

Selected GOURMET™ Perle recipes, including the new Ocean Flakes products, are made using fish sourced from fisheries certified by the Marine Stewardship Council. 

Products carrying the MSC blue ecolabel help consumers identify seafood ingredients sourced from independently certified fisheries.

“At the same time, we know owners want greater transparency about where ingredients come from,” Riboldi said. 

“By introducing recipes made with fish from MSC-certified fisheries, we’re helping make responsible sourcing easier to recognise as part of everyday feeding.”

The relaunched GOURMET™ Perle range is now available across European retail channels and features updated packaging designed to improve shelf visibility and help consumers navigate the product portfolio more easily.

The launch comes as premium and functional pet food segments continue to expand globally, with manufacturers increasingly focusing on ingredient provenance, sustainability credentials and differentiated textures to attract discerning pet owners seeking higher-value nutrition solutions for their animals.
