Coldep to supply VAL2000 technology for major Japan RAS project

The project will be the largest aquaculture installation of Coldep’s Vacuum Air Lift (VAL) technology delivered worldwide to date.

JAPAN – Coldep has been selected by Pure Salmon Technology to supply its VAL2000 vacuum-flotation technology and engineering services for a new land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) in Japan.

The project will be the largest global installation of Coldep’s Vacuum Air Lift (VAL) technology to date.

The system will operate with salt water, requiring stable water quality to support reliable RAS operations and product quality.

The VAL2000 solution is designed to remove dissolved organic matter, fine particles and foam from recirculation loops while supporting energy efficiency, maintainability and lower lifecycle costs.

“Being selected to supply the water-treatment core of this facility is a strong validation of the VAL system’s performance and reliability at industrial scale,” said Sébastien Latz, CEO of Coldep.

The Japan facility is being developed as a 10,000-tonne-per-year land-based salmon farm in Mie Prefecture and is expected to become Japan’s largest land-based salmon facility.

First harvest is targeted for spring 2028.

Coldep said VAL technology has more than 140 installations worldwide and is used across RAS, shellfish production and purification systems.

The technology can also be combined with ozone treatment to help control off-flavours such as geosmin and MIB.

The project adds to the growing development of large-scale land-based aquaculture systems designed to bring seafood production closer to consumers and strengthen domestic supply.

Pure Salmon Technology says its RAS platform focuses on stable operations, fish welfare and resource-efficient production.
