Bioiberica secures collagen verification for pet joint health ingredient

The ingredient delivers science-backed benefits and formulation flexibility to pet supplement brands, according to Bioiberica.

SPAIN – Global life science company Bioiberica has received NutraStrong™ Collagen Verification for Collavant® n2, its native undenatured type II collagen ingredient developed for pet supplement formulations, in a move that highlights growing scrutiny around ingredient quality and efficacy in the pet health sector.

The certification, granted under the NutraStrong Collagen Verified programme developed by SGS Nutrasource, independently evaluates collagen ingredients against identity, source, safety, and quality standards.

Bioiberica said Collavant n2 is designed to support joint mobility in dogs and cats at a low inclusion rate of 0.4 mg/kg body weight or 25 ppm in feed, offering formulation flexibility for manufacturers developing pet supplements and functional nutrition products.

The verification comes as the pet nutrition industry continues to shift toward more science-backed and transparent ingredient sourcing, particularly in fast-growing categories such as mobility support, functional treats, and preventive health nutrition.

“Certifications like this are already well-established in human nutrition categories such as Omega 3s and probiotics, but are much rarer for collagen, and especially for ingredients intended for the pet health market,” said Xavier Garcia.

“Securing this prestigious accreditation for our Collavant n2 ingredient for pet joint support marks a major milestone for us, and represents a significant advancement in ingredient quality standards for pet health,” Garcia added.

The NutraStrong programme is also endorsed by the Collagen Stewardship Alliance, which promotes quality and responsible growth across collagen markets, including animal nutrition applications.

“The CSA’s mission is to foster responsible growth of the global collagen category, including the pet nutrition sector, and the Collagen Verified program plays a vital role in this effort by recognising suppliers and brands that prioritise quality, efficacy and transparency,” said Len Monheit.

“Congratulations to Bioiberica for being the first to meet this rigorous standard in the pet health space and helping set a new benchmark for the industry,” he added.

The development reflects broader momentum in the premium pet nutrition market, where ingredient suppliers are increasingly investing in clinical validation, traceability and third-party certifications to differentiate products amid rising consumer demand for functional pet foods and supplements.

Pet joint health remains one of the fastest-growing supplement segments globally, driven by ageing pet populations and increasing pet owner focus on mobility, wellness and preventive care.

Manufacturers are also expanding the use of collagen-based ingredients in supplements, treats, and therapeutic nutrition products to support long-term musculoskeletal health in companion animals.
