The products are free from artificial colours and flavours

U.S.A – Purina Pro Plan has launched a new AdvantEDGE product line featuring probiotic-based nutrition solutions for adult and senior dogs and cats, as the company expands its portfolio of functional pet food products.
The launch introduces two specialised formulas designed to support digestive health and age-specific nutritional needs, reflecting growing demand for science-backed, value-added pet nutrition.
The AdvantEDGE range includes Adult Digestive Support+ and Senior Support+ formulations, both built around probiotics to enhance gut health and immune function.
According to the company, the digestive formula incorporates a triple-action blend of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics that targets the gut microbiome, which accounts for approximately 70% of a pet’s immune system.
“A healthy digestive system is foundational to a pet’s overall health and AdvantEDGE was developed specifically to target that,” said RuthAnn Lobos, senior veterinarian at Purina.
“Probiotics are at the core of every formula, with each line going deeper where pets need it most.”
The Adult Digestive Support+ range includes salmon-based dry food products for both dogs and cats, formulated to deliver highly digestible nutrition while supporting immune health.
The company said the products are free from artificial colours and flavours, aligning with broader clean-label trends in the pet food industry.
For senior animals, the Senior Support+ line targets pets aged seven years and above, addressing age-related nutritional requirements across multiple health areas.
In dogs, the formulation focuses on cognitive function, immune health and joint mobility, incorporating ingredients such as glucosamine and omega-3 fatty acids.
For cats, the formula supports longevity, immune function and weight management, backed by long-term nutritional research.
“Senior pets have very unique nutritional requirements, and a one-size-fits-all approach simply isn’t enough,” Lobos added.
“High-quality, science-backed nutrition can make a real difference in the quality and length of a senior pet’s life.”
The launch comes amid sustained growth in the global pet care sector, driven by rising pet ownership and the “humanisation” trend, in which owners prioritise premium, health-focused products.
Functional ingredients such as probiotics are gaining traction as manufacturers seek to differentiate products and address specific health concerns.
In the Middle East and Africa, the pet food market is also expanding, particularly in urban centres where disposable incomes and pet health awareness are rising.
This has led to increased demand for specialised nutrition, including digestive health solutions and senior-specific diets.
Major multinational players have been actively strengthening their presence in these markets through product innovation and portfolio expansion.
Nestlé Purina PetCare has continued to invest in research-driven product development, while other global brands are introducing functional and premium offerings tailored to evolving consumer preferences.
The AdvantEDGE launch highlights a broader shift within the industry towards microbiome-focused nutrition and life-stage-specific formulations.
