IFEEDER expands feed supply disruption analysis with beef and dairy reports

The latest publications complete a six-species analysis covering broiler chickens, laying hens, turkeys, swine, beef cattle and dairy cattle.

USA – The Institute for Feed Education and Research (IFEEDER) has released two new reports examining how disruptions in vitamin and amino acid supplies could affect beef and dairy production in the United States.

The beef and dairy reports are the final additions to IFEEDER’s broader assessment titled The Strategic Assessment on the Impact of Vitamin and Amino Acid Supply Chain Disruptions on U.S. Food Security, first published in November 2025.

The latest publications complete a six-species analysis covering broiler chickens, laying hens, turkeys, swine, beef cattle and dairy cattle.

According to IFEEDER, the reports examine how shortages of essential feed nutrients could affect animal health, productivity, herd performance and ultimately food availability.

“From poultry to cattle, we’re providing critical insights into how nutrient disruptions could directly impact essential sectors in U.S. agriculture,” said Lara Moody.

“Understanding these risks helps producers and stakeholders better prepare for challenges that could affect both productivity and food availability,” she added.

Concerns grow over feed ingredient supply resilience

The reports focus on the role of vitamins and amino acids in maintaining livestock performance and production efficiency.

In dairy cattle, the analysis examines how nutrient shortages could affect milk production, fertility and reproductive performance, while the beef report assesses potential impacts on weight gain, herd health and production economics.

IFEEDER said the species-specific approach allows feed manufacturers, livestock producers, nutritionists, and policymakers to understand risks relevant to individual production systems better.

The reports also include input from industry nutritionists and technical experts, who highlighted operational challenges arising from feed ingredient shortages and market volatility.

The study comes amid growing global concern over supply chain resilience in feed production, particularly for vitamins and amino acids, where global manufacturing remains heavily concentrated in a small number of countries.

Recent years have seen disruptions linked to factory shutdowns, logistics bottlenecks, geopolitical tensions and rising production costs, affecting ingredient availability and pricing across global feed markets.

Industry analysts have increasingly warned that prolonged shortages of critical nutrients could reduce feed efficiency, increase livestock production costs and tighten meat, egg and dairy supplies.

IFEEDER said the findings are intended to help strengthen preparedness across the livestock and feed industries while supporting long-term food security planning.
