The ingredient is non-GMO, vegan, and designed to offer full traceability and contaminant-free production.

USA – dsm-firmenich, an innovator in nutrition, health and beauty, will introduce Veramaris® O3 Max Pure at Petfood Forum 2026 in Kansas City, taking place from April 27–29, 2026.
The microalgal oil is designed as a direct, sustainable alternative to fish oil in pet food formulations, addressing growing demand for premium, science-backed nutrition.
The company describes Veramaris® O3 Max Pure as the world’s first microalgal oil to deliver the natural 3:2 EPA: DHA omega-3 ratio found in high-quality fish oil.
The ingredient is non-GMO, vegan, and designed to offer full traceability and contaminant-free production.
It also supports formulators with a stable, year-round supply of omega-3s while maintaining label integrity and nutritional consistency.
Produced through closed-system fermentation of microalgae, the ingredient provides a consistent, contaminant-free source of EPA and DHA in a single solution.
“For today’s pet parents, pet health is personal; it is held to the same standards as their own health,” said George B. Josef, Global Director of Business Development, Nutritional Lipids & Alternative Proteins at dsm-firmenich.
“Veramaris® O3 Max Pure reflects that shift; delivering a full-spectrum omega-3 profile in a single, consistent solution that supports both product performance and the planet.”
The company highlights the increasing demand for sustainable pet nutrition, driven by concerns over volatility in fish oil supply, fluctuating costs, and environmental pressures on marine resources.
Veramaris® O3 Max Pure is positioned to offer formulators a stable, traceable, and formulation-friendly omega-3 source that maintains nutritional integrity and label claims.
Alongside the launch, dsm-firmenich will also present updates to its broader portfolio at Petfood Forum 2026, including enhancements to Veramaris® Pets and new insights on its postbiotic LB Fermentate HF, which has been studied for its role in stress resilience and gut health in dogs.
China court upholds dsm-firmenich swine nutrition patent
dsm-firmenich has also confirmed a legal victory in China, with the Beijing Intellectual Property Court upholding a decision by the China National Intellectual Property Administration to maintain its patent for swine compound premixes containing 25-hydroxyvitamin D3.
The ruling rejects an appeal filed by Shandong Haineng Bioengineering Co. Ltd., marking a second failed attempt to invalidate the patent following earlier proceedings at the CNIPA level.
dsm-firmenich is a major producer of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3, a key circulating form of vitamin D used in animal nutrition, and markets it under its Hy-D portfolio.
The company said the decision reinforces the strength of its intellectual property position in China and supports continued protection of its innovation pipeline in feed additives.
The ruling provides further legal clarity on one of the company’s established nutritional technologies, which is widely used in swine feed applications worldwide.
