MIAVIT contributes US$5990 to support VSF’s One Health initiatives

The One Health initiative core strategy is enhancing the resilience of vulnerable livestock dependent communities in Eastern Africa.

EASTERN AFRICA – MIAVIT,  an international, family-owned German business, has donated €5,000 (approximately US$5990) to Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (VSF) Germany, strengthening its commitment to sustainable animal nutrition, education, and global development.

The donation was handed over to VSF Germany at their Berlin office to strengthen the support for local education, pastoral communities, and capacity building in Eastern Africa.

MIAVIT is an official sponsor of VSF Germany and has long partnered with the organisation to co-promote a central concept that connects human, animal, and environmental health.

The donation was an extension of VSF Germany’s Christmas campaign #WeihnachtenOhneHunger (Christmas Without Hunger), in which MIAVIT doubled each donation up to a total amount of €30,000 (approximately US$35,963).

After the campaign reached its target, MIAVIT offered the donation to mark the joint success and as a commitment to the One Health approach, which recognises human and animal health as closely intertwined.

Beyond Financial Support

Since 2024, MIAVIT has partnered with VSF Germany to strengthen pastoral communities in East Africa. Their collaboration has gone beyond financial contributions, focusing instead on practical interventions that improve animal health and community resilience.

In a recent vaccination campaign in Kitui, Kenya, funded by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), more than 116,000 goats and sheep were immunized. The initiative underscored the vital link between animal health, education, and the stability of pastoral livelihoods.

MIAVIT has contributed its expertise to joint projects, reinforcing its principle of prevention rather than medication. Together, the organizations are developing products that enhance animal health, reduce the need for repeated treatments, and support the training of local animal health workers.

We are delighted to work with another company to promote animal welfare and feeding, combining it with sustainability,” said Christian Griebenow, Managing Director of VSF Germany. “This is also a key aspect of the One Health approach, which is the backbone of our work with pastoralist communities. Only by promoting healthy animals are we able to support the lives and livelihoods of communities in Eastern Africa that are severely affected by climate change.”

The partnership also aligns with a broader mission: supporting pastoral communities through mobile animal health services in remote regions and advancing climate-adapted pasture management. These efforts aim to strengthen resilience, bolster food security, and promote social stability across vulnerable areas.
