Mars appoints Petshop Group as exclusive distribution partner in UAE

The collaboration will broaden the product portfolio for pet care, expand access to premium pet nutrition across the country, and bring research-backed solutions to pet families.

UAE – Mars, a multinational manufacturer of confectionery, pet food, and animal care services, and The Petshop, UAE’s leading specialist pet retailer, have announced a partnership, reinforcing their long-term commitment to developing and strengthening the pet specialty segment.

The partnership will expand access to premium pet nutrition and care for pet parents across the UAE. This appointment marks Mars’ first dedicated pet specialty partnership in the country, a strategic move as demand for premium, specialized, and sustainable pet food products continues to rise.

A Shift to specialised pet nutrition

Consumers are increasingly focusing on premium, health-oriented, and specialized products, reflecting a shift toward treating pets as family members rather than just animals.

Specialty retail currently accounts for around 50 percent of total pet food sales in the UAE and continues to gain share as consumers seek expert advice and education. 

The partnership will expand the pet care portfolio across pet shops and veterinary clinics, including some of the world’s most trusted and loved brands such as Whiskas, Pedigree, Sheba, Thomas, and Cesar, offering a wide range of products for different pets and feeding requirements.

The strategic partnership comes at a time when the pet food market is strong and expanding, with purchasing power remaining high. The market size currently stands at AED 123.45 billion (approximately US$33.6 billion) and is projected to reach AED 180.67 billion (approximately US$49.2 billion) by 2033.

 Mars Petcare announces new Global President 

In parallel with this global expansion, Marc Carena has recently taken on the role of Global President for Mars Petcare. Carena, formerly Regional President for Mars Snacking, has been leading Europe, Central Eurasia, and International Travel Retail for the past four years. During his tenure, he delivered exceptional results across 55 markets, experience that will translate into his new role.

His previous positions at McDonald’s Russia, Nestlé, and Metro Group Europe bring a strong mix of expertise from different business models and geographies.
