Senegal’s SedapTech expands digital poultry management solutions for farmers

SENEGAL – Poultry farmers in Senegal are increasingly turning to digital technologies to improve farm management, reduce production losses and strengthen profitability, with local agritech company SedapTech emerging as one of the firms driving the shift toward technology-enabled poultry production.

The company was founded by Senegalese entrepreneur Mengué Diouf, whose experience as a poultry farmer exposed her to challenges, including disease outbreaks, theft, inadequate supervision, and delayed responses to problems in poultry operations.

According to the entrepreneur, those challenges resulted in severe production losses in her early farming years, with nearly 70% of her flock lost in an initial production cycle due to management and monitoring difficulties.

Although she later increased the time spent overseeing farm activities, losses remained substantial, accounting for around 30% of the birds during a subsequent production cycle.

In response, Diouf began exploring technologies that would allow continuous monitoring of poultry houses and provide greater visibility into farm operations even when she was away from production sites.

Her solution involved installing internet-connected cameras in poultry facilities, enabling remote observation of farm activities and allowing immediate communication with workers whenever issues arose.

The approach produced positive results and eventually led to the creation of SedapTech, which has since developed into a broader digital management platform serving poultry producers across Senegal.

Remote monitoring and data-driven management

The SedapTech platform combines connected cameras, mobile applications, remote monitoring tools and data analysis systems to help farmers supervise poultry operations in real time.

Through the platform, producers can access live images of poultry houses on their smartphones, allowing them to monitor flock conditions from multiple locations and identify operational issues more quickly.

The technology has been designed to operate in rural areas where infrastructure constraints can present challenges, with the company incorporating solar-powered equipment to maintain functionality in locations with unreliable electricity supplies.

In addition to surveillance capabilities, the system gathers production information, including mortality rates, feed consumption levels, flock performance indicators, and growth trends, through a centralised digital platform.

The company also offers financial management features that enable farmers to track expenses, estimate profits, calculate production costs and assess the financial performance of their poultry enterprises.

Users of the platform have reported significant reductions in poultry mortality, with losses that previously reached high levels falling to below 5% on many farms using the technology.

Growth and industry recognition

Diouf currently manages poultry operations in locations including Thiès, Malicounda and Louly through remote monitoring systems, including a farm housing approximately 2,000 chickens.

As adoption has increased, SedapTech has gained recognition within Senegal’s agricultural sector for developing technology tailored to the realities of African poultry farming.

The company reports a customer retention rate exceeding 76%, while annual revenue has grown from roughly 2 million CFA francs to more than 5 million CFA francs as demand for digital poultry management services increases.

Its growth received further recognition when SedapTech won the Ayute Africa Challenge Senegal 2025, securing an 8 million CFA franc prize and advancing to continental-level competition.

With poultry consumption continuing to rise in Senegal, technologies such as SedapTech are increasingly viewed as tools to help producers improve efficiency, reduce operational risks, and support more sustainable growth across the country’s poultry industry.
