The World Bank notes that Tanzania’s population is projected to reach 77.7 million by 2030, resulting in a doubling of fish demand. 

The model allows Beach Management Units (BMUs), youth, and women groups to lease commercial-grade fish cages capable of holding 65,000 fingerlings.

The deal also includes an equity covenant of at least 35% and features an “accordion” option, allowing for an additional US$431 million subject to lender approval.

The project aims to support Kenya’s ambitious goal of tripling its national fish production from the current 147,000 metric tons to 450,000 metric tons by 2030.

The decision comes despite Cargill’s longstanding presence in Vietnam and a US$160 million investment that included the construction of 12 feed mills with a total annual capacity of 1.6 million metric tons.

Vietnam’s demand for U.S. animal food has grown steadily since AFIA began market development efforts in the country in 2021.

The integration aims to strengthen capabilities between Reinartz and Kahl’s existing subsidiaries, including Amandus Kahl (feed pelleting), Schule Mühlenbau (grain milling), and Neuhaus Neotec (food processing).

NIRSAL’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Sa’ad Hamidu, said the training marks the start of a nationwide effort to modernise livestock rearing and meat processing practices in Nigeria.

The project aims to boost local fish production by enhancing access to finance for smallholder fish farmers.

The new facility, which is scheduled for completion in April 2028, will double its current annual production capacity to 40,000 tonnes.
