BinSentry expands partnership with Trouw Nutrition Canada

CANADA – BinSentry and Trouw Nutrition Canada have expanded their partnership with the nationwide deployment of BinSentry’s AI-powered feed inventory management platform across Trouw Nutrition’s Canadian operations, marking a major step toward digitalising feed supply chain management and improving operational efficiency.

The rollout will see BinSentry’s ProSense Feed platform and sensor technology deployed across Trouw Nutrition Canada’s facilities, building on an initial implementation that improved feed inventory visibility, logistics planning, and customer service.

The expanded partnership reflects a shift from using the technology primarily for inventory monitoring to leveraging artificial intelligence for broader operational optimisation across the feed supply chain.

Trouw Nutrition Canada first introduced BinSentry’s technology at selected locations to reduce feed outages and improve inventory management.

Following measurable operational gains, including better delivery coordination, enhanced logistics efficiency and fewer service disruptions, the company decided to expand the platform across its national network.

“What began as a tool for improving visibility and reducing outages has become a strategic operational platform capable of optimising how feed manufacturers manage inventory, ordering, logistics and customer service across entire ecosystems,” said Tim Karl, Vice President of Milling at BinSentry.

Karl said the expansion was made possible through close collaboration between the two companies.

“After nearly three decades in milling and animal nutrition, I’ve found that when organisations work collaboratively, it consistently creates mutual value and win-win outcomes,” he said.

Digitalisation drives feed industry transformation

Trouw Nutrition Canada said the broader deployment aligns with its strategy of modernising feed operations through technology and data-driven decision-making.

According to David Crossan, General Manager for the Central Region at Trouw Nutrition Canada, the initial results demonstrated that the platform offered benefits beyond inventory monitoring.

“After seeing the operational improvements generated through our initial deployment of BinSentry’s technology, it became clear there was substantially more strategic value available through a broader rollout,” Crossan said.

“Expanding across our Canadian network allows us to further optimise inventory management, delivery coordination and customer service throughout our operations.”

AI adoption accelerates across feed sector

The partnership highlights a broader trend across the animal nutrition industry as feed manufacturers increasingly adopt artificial intelligence and connected technologies to improve efficiency, forecasting and supply chain resilience.

BinSentry combines optical sensors with AI-powered software to provide real-time inventory monitoring and predictive analytics.

The company currently monitors more than 60,000 feed bins across North America.

According to Karl, the value of the technology extends beyond preventing inventory shortages.

“What Trouw Nutrition Canada recognised is that the opportunity extends far beyond preventing outages,” he said.

“It’s about creating a smarter, more connected and more efficient operational network.”

Trouw Nutrition, Nutreco’s livestock feed business, operates in 105 countries and runs 22 manufacturing plants worldwide, supplying feed specialities, additives, premixes and nutrition solutions to livestock producers.
