MacDonald brings extensive experience across aquaculture, food production and supply chain management.

UK – BioMar, a global aquafeed leader, has named Donald MacDonald as the new managing director of its UK business, BioMar Ltd, as the company strengthens leadership to support growth in aquaculture feed markets.
MacDonald is set to join in early September from Macphie UK, where he currently serves as operations director.
His appointment comes as BioMar continues to expand its role in supplying feed to the UK’s salmon farming sector.
“Donald brings strong commercial leadership and a proven record in building customer relationships and delivering value in food manufacturing and aquaculture,” the company said.
MacDonald brings extensive experience across aquaculture, food production and supply chain management.
Prior to joining Macphie, he spent nearly 4 years as operations director at Bakkafrost Scotland, formerly known as the Scottish Salmon Company.
He also held a role as head of supply chain at Mowi in Rosyth, giving him direct exposure to feed demand dynamics and operational challenges in salmon farming.
Earlier in his career, MacDonald spent a decade at Bakkavor, where he managed commercial partnerships, including overseeing Marks & Spencer’s supply chain operations.
Supporting aquafeed growth in the UK
BioMar said MacDonald’s customer-focused approach aligns with its strategy of building long-term partnerships with producers, particularly as aquaculture continues to expand in Scotland and across the UK.
Paddy Campbell, Vice President of BioMar’s salmon division, said the appointment reflects the company’s ambitions in the region.
“Donald’s customer-centric approach and hands-on leadership make him an excellent choice to lead BioMar UK. His appointment marks an exciting new chapter as we further strengthen our customer partnerships and support aquaculture growth in Scotland,” Campbell said.
For the feed sector, the leadership change comes at a time when aquafeed producers are focusing on efficiency, sustainability and closer collaboration with farmers to meet evolving production and environmental demands.
