The agreement is effective from March 2026, with automatic renewal provisions.

BELGIUM – The International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed (IPIFF) has partnered with Argenta, a global contract research and development organisation specialising in animal health and nutrition, to fast-track regulatory approval and development of insect-based solutions for animal and human nutrition.
As part of the agreement, Argenta will serve as a Strategic Advisory Member on Animal Health & Nutrition and Human Nutrition Product Development for IPIFF.
Its team of scientists and regulatory experts will provide non-voting strategic guidance to IPIFF and its members, focusing on navigating complex approval pathways with authorities such as the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The partnership combines IPIFF’s sector knowledge with Argenta’s expertise in preclinical and clinical study design, product development, safety and efficacy testing, and quality standards for insect-derived feeds, nutraceuticals, and veterinary products.
It also includes workshops, webinars, and scientific forums to connect insect producers with animal health experts.
Adriana Casillas, IPIFF President, said the collaboration provides the sector with a “scientific roadmap required to navigate European and international regulations effectively.”
Steven Barbosa, IPIFF Secretary-General, described it as a key step in turning innovative insect-based ideas into market-ready solutions.
The partnership comes as insect-based feed ingredients gain traction across Europe.
The European insect feed market is currently valued at over €1 billion.
It is growing rapidly due to sustainability goals, rising protein demand, and regulatory approvals for black soldier fly larvae and other insect species in poultry, aquaculture, and pet nutrition.
Insect-derived proteins are increasingly seen as viable alternatives to conventional feed ingredients, offering lower environmental impact and enhanced traceability.
Dr Klaus Hellmann, Managing Director of KLIFOVET GmbH and Pen & Tec Consulting SLU (part of the Argenta Group), commented:
“The insect sector holds immense promise for the future of animal health and nutrition, and human nutrition.”
The agreement is effective from March 2026 and includes automatic renewal provisions.
