Silverlands Tanzania adds Faida Layer Mash to poultry feed portfolio

This new product reinforces Silverland’s role in supporting Tanzania’s poultry sector with products that deliver measurable technical and economic benefits.

TANZANIA – Silverlands Tanzania (STL), a major producer of animal feed and day-old chicks, has recently introduced Faida Layer Mash, a scientifically formulated feed developed to support strong laying performance and consistent egg production.

The product is designed specifically for commercial layer birds in production and is balanced to meet the nutritional requirements necessary for sustained egg output and shell strength.

Faida Layer Mash contains approximately 16 to 18 per cent crude protein and delivers metabolizable energy in the range of 2,700 to 2,850 kilocalories per kilogram.

The formulation includes maize as the primary energy source and soybean meal as the main protein component, making it highly digestible and optimal for nutrient utilisation.

It is fortified with essential amino acids such as lysine and methionine, balanced calcium levels for shell formation, available phosphorus, and a full vitamin and mineral premix. The calcium inclusion typically ranges between 3.5 and 4.2 per cent to support shell quality and reduce breakage.

By improving nutrient absorption and reducing wastage, it supports improved feed conversion efficiency, resulting in a lower feed conversion ratio per unit of egg mass produced. This contributes directly to reduced cost per egg and improved farm profitability.

Du Toit promoted to operational manager

In addition to the launch, STL announced the promotion of Mr Johan Du Toit to the position of Operations Manager on 23 February 2026.

Prior to this appointment, Mr Du Toit held senior operational leadership responsibilities within the Silverlands group, where he played a central role in strengthening feed production systems and overall plant performance. His progression into this role reflects both his technical capabilities and his proven track record of delivering operational results.

Mr Du Toit brings two decades of experience in large-scale agribusiness and manufacturing environments. Over the course of his career, he has led businesses with full profit-and-loss accountability of up to US$29 million annually and managed workforces of up to 1,000 employees.

His expertise includes feed mill management, financial oversight, preventative maintenance systems, biosecurity implementation, production planning, and workforce optimisation in complex, high-performance settings.

At Silverlands, he has already delivered measurable improvements in feed quality, throughput, preventative maintenance systems, biosecurity standards, and operational discipline.

He has also played a key role in strategic capacity-expansion initiatives to meet increasing regional demand. These improvements have strengthened production consistency, reduced downtime, and improved overall plant efficiency.

His appointment as Operations Manager aligns directly with Silverlands’ ongoing focus on operational excellence, quality assurance, and sustainable growth. The company continues to invest in systems, infrastructure, and product development to support farmers across the region.

Mr Du Toit’s leadership is expected to further enhance manufacturing standards, improve cost efficiency, and reinforce a performance-driven culture across operations. His experience managing large teams and complex production environments positions STL to continue delivering reliable, high-quality feed solutions to the market.
