ForFarmers, ADM renew partnership to cut CO₂ footprint in animal feed

GLOBAL – European animal feed leader ForFarmers and global agricultural processor ADM have renewed and strengthened a strategic partnership aimed at lowering the carbon footprint of animal feed ingredients, committing to a verified 25 % reduction in CO₂ emissions for select raw materials used on farms. 

Livestock production accounts for a significant share of agricultural emissions, with feed ingredients representing a major portion of that footprint.

By using palm kernel expeller (PKE) sourced from ADM,  a by-product of palm oil processing with a 25% lower CO₂ footprint, ForFarmers integrates lower-impact raw materials into its feed solutions that balance productivity with environmental responsibility.

“Animal feed plays a key role in the overall footprint of livestock production,” ForFarmers noted in its announcement. “This collaboration helps us to make our raw materials portfolio even more sustainable and integrate CO₂ reduction into our value chain.”

Under the renewed agreement, ForFarmers will continue purchasing palm kernel expeller (PKE) from ADM, a by-product of palm oil processing, which has a 25% lower CO₂ footprint and meets stringent sustainability and traceability criteria. 

By doing this, ADM helps ForFarmers provide feed solutions that optimise efficiency, improve operational outcomes, and support farmers in producing high-quality milk and meat more effectively.

The collaboration builds on a relationship that has strengthened over the past year, with verified CO₂ reductions increasing from 20% to 25% compared with conventional ingredients, supported by auditable data from ADM’s supply chain. This ingredient provides energy and fibre in feed while helping farmers produce high-quality milk and meat more efficiently.

“ForFarmers, our continued work with ADM translates sustainability commitments into real-world impact throughout the value chain,” a company representative said. “This partnership supports farmers in reducing emissions and reinforces our shared commitment to measurable progress.”

ForFarmers, headquartered in the Netherlands, is one of Europe’s largest feed companies, with deep expertise in tailoring feed solutions to local markets.

ADM, leveraging its global sourcing and processing capabilities, can use ForFarmers’ distribution networks and farmer relationships to scale sustainable feed solutions across the continent.

The partnership addresses growing consumer and regulatory demand for traceable, responsibly sourced ingredients without compromising quality or performance. It also delivers measurable impact across the livestock sector, helping farmers align production practices with climate goals while enhancing competitiveness.

ADM emphasises that this initiative is a continuation of previous collaborations that have already achieved tangible results, rather than a symbolic gesture.

Expanding the poultry value chain in Poland

In a separate strategic move, ForFarmers expanded its footprint in Poland’s poultry sector through a joint venture with KPS Food Group, a major poultry farming and processing operator. 

The enterprise, named ForFarmers Polska, will combine ForFarmers’ existing feed activities (through Tasomix) with KPS’s poultry farms, slaughterhouses and processing facilities, with ForFarmers holding a 50.5 % controlling stake.

The deal is valued at approximately PLN 2.19 billion (≈ US$561 million) and reflects ForFarmers’ push toward vertical integration in growing animal protein markets. It strengthens the company’s position in Poland while offering enhanced service and supply chain integration for poultry producers. 

Together, the sustainability partnership with ADM and the Polish poultry joint venture highlight ForFarmers’ dual focus on environmental performance and strategic market expansion in the broader livestock sector.
