Bunge, Mantiqueira Brasil seal deal for traceable, low-carbon soybean meal

The soybean meal supplied under the agreement has an estimated carbon footprint between 40% and 70% lower than the Brazilian average.

BRAZIL  – Bunge and Mantiqueira Brasil have signed a commercial agreement to supply 12,000 tons of fully traceable, low-carbon soybean meal to Brazil’s poultry sector, marking a new step in connecting regenerative grain production with animal protein value chains.

The deal, announced in São Paulo in December 2025, will see Bunge provide Mantiqueira Brasil with soybean meal sourced exclusively from farms that adopt sustainable practices to improve soil health, biodiversity and carbon stocks.

The soybean meal will be used in poultry feed at Mantiqueira Brasil’s production units, aligning with the egg producer’s strategy to reduce environmental impacts and strengthen supply chain transparency.

Mantiqueira Brasil is a leading player in South America’s egg market, while Bunge is a global agribusiness company linking farmers to food, feed and fuel markets.

The transaction forms part of Bunge’s broader effort to connect customers seeking to cut emissions with verified, traceable agricultural production.

According to the companies, the soybean meal supplied under the agreement has an estimated carbon footprint between 40% and 70% lower than the Brazilian average, based on leading life cycle assessment methodologies, including EcoInvent, the Global Feed LCA Institute and AgriFootprint.

Blockchain traceability and carbon accounting

A central element of the partnership is the use of a blockchain platform to track the Product Carbon Footprint of the soybean meal from farm to final destination.

A third-party company audits the indicator adopted by Bunge and relies on primary farm-level data collected through digital tools offered free of charge to producers enrolled in Bunge’s Regenerative Agriculture Program in Brazil.

In partnership with our clients, Bunge has been expanding its offering of carbon solutions to support emissions reductions in the supply chain and promote sustainable agricultural practices,” said Pamela Moreira, Bunge’s Sustainability Director.

We believe in a collective journey and are identifying new opportunities and tools to strengthen regenerative approaches that generate value for the entire chain.

Organic fertiliser pilot strengthens circular economy

Beyond the supply of soybean meal, the cooperation also includes a pilot project testing Solobom, an organic fertiliser produced from laying hen manure generated by Mantiqueira Brasil. As part of the initial trial, approximately 100 tons of the fertiliser were applied to off-season corn fields on Bunge partner farms, with further tests planned for other crops.

These practices promote the rational use of chemical inputs, increase water absorption and retention in the soil, and strengthen natural fertility,” said Leandro Testa, Director of Origination at Mantiqueira Brasil and Business Director at Solobom.

Our role in regenerative agriculture is to encourage the circular economy by transforming poultry manure into organic fertiliser.

Mantiqueira Brasil currently sells more than 100,000 tons of Solobom organic fertiliser each year, supplying farms producing sugarcane, soybeans, corn and coffee across São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.

Bunge’s Regenerative Agriculture Program now spans about 345,000 hectares in Brazil and combines premium payments, technical assistance and digital agriculture tools for producers.

The program is designed to link demand from food, feed and biofuel companies with crops grown under regenerative practices, while also allowing buyers to co-invest in the adoption of new, low-carbon farming systems.
