His appointment marks a significant internal promotion and reinforces the company’s commitment to continuity, innovation, and sustainable aquaculture.
NORWAY – Skretting Norway has appointed Mads Martinsen as its new General Manager, following a strategic leadership shake-up that also sees former GM Håvard Walde take on a broader international role within the company.
Martinsen, who joined Skretting in 2011 as a freshly graduated fisheries candidate from the University of Tromsø, steps into the top role after seven years as Director of Product Development and Sustainability.
His appointment marks a significant internal promotion and reinforces the company’s commitment to continuity, innovation, and sustainable aquaculture.
“I’ve practically grown up on the edge of a fish pen, and I’m filled with both joy and a sense of awe at being given the opportunity to help drive the development of the feed side in Norwegian aquaculture,” Martinsen said.
“We have some fantastic opportunities to produce even more of the best and most sustainable food the world demands, so this is something I’m truly passionate about.”
Martinsen’s journey within Skretting has seen him lead the research station at Lerang, manage grower feeds in Norway, and play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s product innovation strategy.
His technical expertise and long-standing commitment to sustainable development are expected to align well with Skretting Norway’s ambitions for the future.
Walde takes helm in Skretting’s four major markets
The leadership change comes as Håvard Walde assumes the newly expanded role of Managing Director for Skretting’s salmon operations in Norway, Australia, North America, and Chile, four of the company’s most critical markets, effective May 1 2025.
Walde, who has been with Skretting for 17 years, most recently served as General Manager of Skretting Norway for five years, following over a decade as Finance Director.
“We’ve gained a capable leader who knows the company well and has a strong commitment to aquaculture,” Walde said of Martinsen. “I personally value the collaboration I’ve had with Mads and the Norwegian team and look forward to continuing it.”
Walde’s promotion follows the transition of Dag Engelsvoll, his predecessor in the international role, into a senior advisory position.
“I am truly excited about working closely with the Skretting teams and their customers to drive growth in Australia, North America and Chile,” Walde said.
He emphasised that his leadership approach will be rooted in customer engagement, innovation, and sustainability, core principles that continue to guide Skretting’s global operations.
The appointments underscore Skretting’s strategic focus on nurturing internal talent and strengthening its leadership across vital markets.
