Evonik launches poultry probiotic Ecobiol® in China at industry-leading feed expo

CHINA – Global speciality chemicals leader Evonik made headlines at the China Feed Industry Expo 2025 with the official launch of Ecobiol®, a poultry-focused probiotic making its debut in the Chinese market. 

The event, held in Qingdao from April 18 to 20, showcased Evonik’s latest innovations in animal nutrition, with a spotlight on sustainable solutions and advanced analytics aimed at improving feed efficiency and animal health.

Though Ecobiol® has been available in other regions, this marked the first time the probiotic has been registered as a feed-grade Bacillus subtilis product in mainland China. 

Developed by Evonik Vland Biotech, a joint venture formed in 2023, the product is tailored to address growing demands for healthier and more sustainable poultry production in the region.

“We are excited to introduce more innovative solutions that enhance animal health, helping local producers tackle challenges related to quality, profitability, and sustainability,” said Dr. Xu Wang, General Manager of Evonik Vland Biotech.

Ecobiol® contains the naturally fast-growing Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940, designed to support intestinal health in poultry, especially under challenging conditions. 

By improving feed conversion and reducing mortality, the probiotic contributes to enhanced performance and welfare. 

According to Evonik’s life cycle assessments, the product can also cut greenhouse gas emissions in broiler production by up to 5%, underlining its sustainability value.

The debut of Ecobiol® in China comes at a time when producers are increasingly seeking alternatives to antibiotics and looking to improve animal welfare and production efficiency. 

Intestinal health, often compromised by environmental and nutritional stressors, plays a crucial role in overall poultry performance. 

Products like Ecobiol® address these challenges by restoring microbial balance and mitigating the risks associated with conditions such as necrotic enteritis and leaky gut.

Other Evonik highlights at China Feed Industry Expo

Evonik’s presence at the expo extended beyond probiotics. The company also emphasised the efficiency and environmental benefits of its broader portfolio. 

A major highlight was MetAMINO®, a DL-methionine product with a product carbon footprint roughly 35% lower than the industry average, offering a sustainable amino acid solution for animal nutrition.

Additionally, Evonik showcased AMINONIR®, a rapid feed ingredient analysis service that helps customers improve feed formulation accuracy and achieve significant cost savings. 

The company also introduced inoSust®, a new sustainability service, and shared developments in microbiological analytical services from the Evonik Vland partnership.
