CHINA – DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health has partnered with Tianlai Livestock Group to address carbon emissions in China’s beef cattle industry in a bold step toward sustainable agriculture.
The collaboration seeks to transform the sector by introducing innovative low-carbon farming practices, leveraging DSM-Firmenich’s advanced life cycle assessment (LCA) platform, Sustell.
The partnership was formalized on January 7 through a memorandum of understanding (MOU). Under the agreement, Tianlai Livestock Group will adopt the Sustell platform to measure and reduce the environmental footprint of beef production.
This initiative marks the launch of China’s first core data platform dedicated to advancing sustainability in the beef cattle industry.
“With quality at the heart of our operations, we are committed to empowering the beef cattle value chain, ensuring traceability and safety from farm to table,” said Zhang Sheng, chairman of Tianlai Livestock Group.
“This collaboration aligns with China’s carbon neutrality strategy and underscores our commitment to driving sustainable growth in the livestock sector.”
The Sustell platform, designed to deliver data-driven insights, will enable Tianlai to bridge critical gaps in domestic beef production, enhance industry standards, and encourage broader adoption of low-carbon practices among enterprises and farmers across China.
“Tianlai’s strong presence in the livestock industry and dedication to sustainability make them an ideal partner for this initiative,” noted Zane Zeng, B2F Director for Greater APAC at DSM-Firmenich.
“By combining Sustell’s advanced capabilities with Tianlai’s expertise, we aim to create a pioneering model for green transformation in the livestock sector.”
DSM-Firmenich’s Sustell platform provides robust, data-rich assessments of animal protein production, enabling precise monitoring and actionable recommendations to minimise environmental impact.
This collaboration is expected to contribute significantly to China’s carbon reduction targets while setting a benchmark for sustainable cattle farming globally.
“We are excited to support the Chinese beef industry with innovative tools to optimise their environmental footprint,” added Dr Mongkol Kaewsutas, Director of Precision Services for Greater APAC at DSM-Firmenich.
“This partnership represents a groundbreaking step toward a sustainable future, aligning with China’s ambitious climate goals.”
This partnership adds to a series of similar partnerships that DSM-Firmenic has formed with industry players globally as the demand rises for low-carbon beef production.
