Lisavaird Co-op unveils premium feed range from upgraded mill

IRELAND – Lisavaird Co-op, based in County Cork, Ireland, has marked a significant milestone in its nearly century-long history by launching a new range of premium animal feeds. 

This follows a substantial EUR5.5 million (US$6.1 million) investment in upgrading its feed mill facility, reflecting the cooperative’s commitment to producing top-quality feeds for the agricultural community.

The state-of-the-art mill, which operates 15 hours a day, five days a week, is equipped with advanced technology that guarantees superior-quality feed production. Tim Hayes, the mill’s manager, highlighted the scale of the investment and its impact: 

“Significant investment was made in the technology and equipment to guarantee we produce superior-quality feed.”

The new premium feeds, marketed under the Lisavaird Agri-Feeds brand, are available in 25-kilogram bags and in bulk. 

Formulated in collaboration with Dr Morgan Sheehy of Devenish Nutrition, the feed range is enriched with essential vitamins and minerals tailored to meet the nutritional needs of various livestock. 

The lineup includes products for calves, dairy and beef cattle, ewes and lambs, laying hens, and finishing pigs. Additional offerings include soybean meal, corn meal, and whole wheat.

Lisavaird Co-op sources its grain requirements locally, reinforcing its commitment to supporting Irish agriculture. This focus on local sourcing comes as Ireland’s animal feed industry continues to play a significant role in the country’s agricultural output. 

According to data from the European feed manufacturers’ organisation FEFAC, in 2022, the Irish Republic’s total compound feed production reached 5.16 million metric tons (mmt), with feed for cattle accounting for 3.52 MMT, pigs for 724,000 metric tons, and poultry for 697,000 metric tons.

Launching the Lisavaird Agri-Feeds brand is part of a broader rebranding effort ahead of the cooperative’s centenary celebrations in 2025. 

Founded in 1925 by local dairy farmers, the Lisavaird Co-op began as a way for farmers to purchase inputs and market their products collectively. 

Over the years, it has evolved to include a range of businesses, including building supplies, homewares, and cheese production. It serves the West Cork community through its central store in Lisavaird and six additional branches.

As Lisavaird Co-op prepares for its 100th anniversary, the upgraded feed mill and new product line symbolise its continued dedication to innovation and supporting the agricultural community, ensuring a bright future for its members and customers.
