Hill’s Pet Nutrition invests US$1M in Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine

USA – Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a leading name in science-driven pet nutrition and a division of Colgate-Palmolive, has announced a US$1 million investment in Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. 

This substantial contribution will fund the creation of an endowed small animal clinical nutrition professorship, further strengthening the college’s capacity to deliver cutting-edge education and research in veterinary nutritional science.

The professorship, Hill’s Pet Nutrition Clinical Nutrition Professorship, represents Hill’s commitment to advancing veterinary education and enhancing the health and well-being of pets worldwide. 

The US$1 million endowment, spread over five years, will enable the appointment of a distinguished faculty member who will develop and teach courses focused on small animal nutrition, ranging from basic dietary needs to advanced therapeutic nutrition strategies.

“This new endowed professorship builds on the legacy of an exemplary veterinary medicine program that Kansas State University is already known for,” said Dr. Jolle Kirpensteijn, Hill’s Global Chief Veterinary Officer. 

“Comprehensive education in pet nutrition is vital for vet students, as it plays a critical role in promoting lifelong health in pets. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Kansas State University to create a future generation of veterinarians fully equipped to make informed nutritional recommendations.”

Enhancing veterinary education and research

The Hill’s Pet Nutrition Endowed Clinical Nutrition Professorship is expected to impact the college’s educational offerings and research capabilities profoundly. 

The appointed professor will teach critical courses and lead innovative research to improve nutritional practices and develop new dietary solutions for small animals.

This research will benefit the academic community and have practical applications in veterinary practices globally, ultimately enhancing the lives of pets.

“This professorship will strengthen our educational capacity in small animal nutrition, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared for success in their veterinary careers,” expressed Bonnie Rush, Hodes family dean of the college.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition’s relationship with Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is long-standing. In 2018, the company contributed US$2.4 million to establish the Pet Health and Nutrition Center, a primary care clinic within the College serving the local community and beyond.
