The ready-to-use feed supports broiler growth, performance, and farm profitability at different stages of production.

UGANDA – De Heus has officially launched its Broiler Complete Feed in Uganda, introducing a ready-to-use feed solution formulated to provide broilers with the nutrients required for healthy growth and strong performance.
The launch took place at De Heus’ office in Nalukolongo, Kampala, bringing together poultry farmers, dealers, media partners and other industry stakeholders.
The event was attended by Dr Dennis Makholo, assistant commissioner in charge of animal nutrition, and Fred Van Hese, a representative from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Uganda.
De Heus said the Broiler Complete Feed is a well-balanced, ready-to-use product designed to support broilers at different stages of growth.
The company said the feed is intended to help poultry farmers improve productivity, grow their businesses and increase farm profitability by providing consistent nutrition and practical feeding solutions.
The launch comes as Uganda strengthens oversight of its animal feed sector under the Animal Feeds Act 2024.
The legislation, which came into force in June 2024, sets requirements for the production, import, storage, sale, packaging, labelling, licensing, and quality control of animal feeds.
Feed quality is particularly important for Uganda’s poultry industry, where feed represents one of the largest production costs and directly affects bird growth, feed conversion and farmer returns.
De Heus said quality control begins with its raw materials. The company screens ingredients in its in-house laboratory for nutritional composition and anti-nutritional factors before using them in feed production.
Maize is tested for aflatoxin contamination, while soybean supplies are assessed for crude protein levels and processing conditions.
The company has previously highlighted the scale of feed demand among monogastric livestock in Uganda.
A 2022 assessment cited during the launch estimated that poultry and pig production requires about 2.3 million tonnes of feed annually.
De Heus is also providing farmers with technical support alongside its feed products, including farm visits and guidance to improve production outcomes.
A farmer speaking at the launch said the company’s support had helped address production concerns, with no sickness complaints reported.
De Heus said feed performance should ultimately be measured by bird growth, feed conversion, and the returns generated for the farmer.
The launch marks another step in the company’s expansion of its poultry nutrition offering in Uganda, with the Broiler Complete Feed positioned as a practical solution for farmers seeking ready-to-use nutrition across the broiler production cycle.
