Angel Yeast targets broader feed markets with yeast postbiotic innovations

The company showcased its latest animal nutrition innovations at the 16th International Animal Feed Congress & Exhibition (TUYEM) in Turkey, where it emphasised the role of yeast-derived technologies in improving feed efficiency, animal performance and sustainability amid rising feed costs and raw material pressures facing the global livestock sector.

Speaking at the event, George Gong, Technical Expert at Angel Yeast, presented research on yeast postbiotics and yeast peptides in ruminant nutrition, highlighting their potential to enhance animal productivity while reducing reliance on conventional feed inputs.

“Today, yeast and its derivatives are primarily used in ruminant feed, but their potential extends beyond this segment,” Gong said.

“Yeast peptides, yeast cell walls and other functional components can be used in pet food, poultry feed, aquaculture and food applications. 

These functional components will allow yeast-based products to play a key role in a wider range of animal production systems, leading to greater efficiency and long-term sustainability.”

New opportunities for poultry, aquaculture and pet food sectors

The global feed industry continues to face mounting challenges linked to fluctuating raw material supplies, increasing ingredient costs and growing demand for sustainable production systems.

Against this backdrop, feed manufacturers are increasingly exploring functional ingredients that can improve animal performance and feed utilisation while supporting gut health and resilience.

Angel Yeast said its research and development efforts are increasingly focused on functional yeast components such as yeast peptides and yeast cell walls, which provide prebiotic and postbiotic benefits and can be incorporated into a range of animal nutrition products.

The company noted that live yeast remains widely used in ruminant feeding to support microbial balance, stabilise rumen pH and improve fibre and starch digestibility. 

According to Angel Yeast, studies using its yeast-based products have shown increased average daily weight gain in cattle and increased milk production in dairy cows, thereby improving feed efficiency and farm productivity.

The shift toward functional yeast ingredients is particularly relevant in markets where feed processing conditions can affect the performance of traditional live yeast products. 

In Turkey, where pelleted feed is widely used, the high-temperature pelleting process can reduce live yeast activity, creating opportunities for more stable functional ingredients such as postbiotics and yeast-derived bioactive compounds.

With growing interest in gut health, feed efficiency, and antibiotic-reduction strategies across livestock and aquaculture production, yeast-derived ingredients are increasingly being positioned as part of next-generation nutrition programmes.
