The initiatives reflect a shared commitment to empowering future female leaders while supporting long-term community development and food security.

KENYA – Tunga Nutrition (K) Limited, through Skretting, has entered into a strategic partnership with Island of Hope to strengthen food security, support livelihoods, and advance sustainable aquaculture development in Kenya’s Rusinga region.
The collaboration combines commercial support, research and innovation, and social impact initiatives designed to improve community resilience while expanding opportunities for youth and women in agriculture and aquaculture.
Under the agreement, Tunga Nutrition will support the project’s working-capital feed requirements, helping to strengthen production capacity and operational stability at the farm level.
The partners also plan to collaborate on research and innovation initiatives focused on efficient food production and sustainable farming systems.
A key component of the partnership is the EmpowerHER programme, which will sponsor university education for two vulnerable young women from Island of Hope orphanages.
The initiative will also provide internship placements, mentorship opportunities, and leadership development programmes to build professional skills and encourage community impact through knowledge sharing.
The organisations said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainable agriculture, youth and women empowerment, and long-term community transformation through innovation-driven food security solutions.
Other stakeholders linked to the broader vision include Equity Bank, the County Government of Homa Bay and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
Partnership builds on Tunga Nutrition’s recent aquaculture expansion
The collaboration comes just months after Tunga Nutrition significantly expanded its aquaculture feed production capacity in Kenya, reinforcing its position in East Africa’s growing fish farming sector.
Earlier this year, the company officially launched a new aquafeed production line in Nairobi, increasing installed production capacity from 24,000 metric tons to 45,000 metric tons annually.
The expanded facility, developed through a joint venture between Skretting and Unga Group, features modern extrusion technology, upgraded quality assurance systems, and a zero-carbon biomass boiler designed to improve sustainability performance.
Speaking during the launch, Harrison Juma, General Manager of Tunga Nutrition Kenya, described the investment as a major step toward improving feed affordability, supply reliability and farmer productivity across the region.
The facility is expected to serve fish farmers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and neighbouring markets as demand for aquaculture products continues to grow across East Africa.
Beyond manufacturing, Tunga Nutrition has also recently participated in regional aquaculture knowledge programmes, including the Samaki Poa Project, which supports farmer training centres and digital learning hubs across East Africa.
