The partnerships are designed to support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of food security, circular economy growth, and environmental sustainability.

SAUDI ARABIA – Tanmiah Food Company, one of Saudi Arabia’s leading vertically integrated poultry and food producers, has signed two strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with sustainability-focused portfolio companies under SEQUENCIVE: PHYLA and RECYCLEE.
PHYLA, a biotechnology firm pioneering sustainable alternative protein, and RECYCLEE, a digital waste management solutions provider. The agreements were formalised at IFAT Saudi Arabia as part of the company’s broader sustainability and innovation agenda aligned with Vision 2030 objectives.
The new MoUs build on Tanmiah’s existing collaboration with PHYLA. The two companies had previously partnered to lead research and development into sustainable alternative proteins, specifically exploring the use of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae derived from brewers’ spent grain (BSG).
The initiative focused on converting organic by-products into high-value insect protein for poultry feed, a move designed to reduce reliance on imported soybean meal while strengthening local feed security.
The R&D programme examined feed conversion efficiency, nutritional performance, scalability of insect farming, and lifecycle environmental impact. By developing locally produced insect-based feed ingredients, Tanmiah aims to reduce supply chain volatility, lower carbon emissions associated with imports, and improve long-term cost resilience.
“With RECYCLEE and PHYLA, we are leveraging technology and biological innovation to improve resource efficiency, strengthen food security, and support national priorities with practical, scalable solutions,” said Zulfiqar Hamadani, CEO of Tanmiah Food Company. He added that sustainability for Tanmiah is about building “a resilient, innovative food system for the future.”
Under the new MoU, PHYLA will continue advancing alternative protein development toward commercial-scale deployment, while RECYCLEE will implement digital waste management systems across Tanmiah’s operations.
RECYCLEE’s platform is expected to enhance waste traceability, landfill diversion, and resource recovery, embedding circular-economy principles deeper into Tanmiah’s value chain.
Mohammed AlMadhi, CEO of SEQUENCIVE, described the agreement as both a shared goal and a shared responsibility.
He said the partnership will bridge gaps in the feed supply chain through sustainable alternative protein while diverting waste from landfills using digital innovation and industrial expertise. “This partnership will greatly scale up our food security, circular economy, and environmental impact in the Kingdom,” he stated.
Regional context – UAE and beyond
The strategy mirrors successful sustainability collaborations across the UAE.
Sharjah-based Bee’ah has partnered with Microsoft and Masdar to digitise waste management systems and improve landfill diversion rates under the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031.
Meanwhile, companies such as Enviroserve and Dulsco have pioneered advanced recycling and e-waste management models, demonstrating measurable gains in resource recovery and emissions reduction.
Similar alternative protein partnerships in Europe have already demonstrated measurable environmental and supply chain benefits. French insect protein producer Ÿnsect has partnered with major aquafeed manufacturer Skretting to incorporate insect meal into aquaculture diets, thereby reducing reliance on imported soy and fishmeal while lowering feed-related carbon footprints.
The new agreements accelerate an existing sustainability roadmap. In the near term, the company aims to scale insect-protein integration into feed operations, deploy digital waste tracking systems, and contribute measurably to Saudi Arabia’s food security and circular economy targets.
The MoUs signal a strategic step toward industrial-scale transformation, positioning Tanmiah at the intersection of biotechnology, digitalisation, and sustainable food production in the Gulf region.
